I have no garage to put my new car and Im not sure what to do

I just got an 08 Acura TL type-s and I have no garage to put it in so it just sits in my driveway and Im kinda worried about rain water, pollen, dirt, snow and whatever else that could possibly do any damage. Maybe Im just being over protective since I just got it but isnt there any alternative to a garage maybe?

it is relevant, as and when you get older, you'll realize that its just a car.
and no garage means parking your ride outside.

You can get some car-tent-thingies from Autozone or Wal-Mart.

Like this:

And I know there are some that come with a flap that allows you to cover the car completely.

the only problem with that is if you live in an apartment or townhomes, or even a house without a garage.....I dont think the Home Owners Association will like this tent idea.

its very obtrusive and an eye sore.

^ that thing is not really safe since he lives in NJ with crazy snow every winter.. Here would be some of my suggetions:
1/ park under trees (that is if your house have any)
2/ car cover
3/ you'll get over it soon, wait until you drive in the winter with salts and rocks chip your front bumper.. you'd be like.. fk it

Install paint protection film on the entire car. Expensive but it will provide the protection you are requesting.

Congrats on the car. The first scratch/hit is the hardest. Like someone said, you're in the honeymoon phase LOL.
You'll realize later that its not as serious as you made it. I got my car 2 months ago (TL). Two scratches already, clear bra took the hit but now its like ehhhh.

Give a REALLY good polish, wax and finish. (Check here: https://acurazine.com/forums/wash-wax-23/)

Then rinse it off every few days and wash it about once a week. After washing use some quick detailer to "finish" it. That'll keep you until the next good waxing, which you may want to do about every 3 months.

Whatever you do, don't "wipe" the pollen off - the little pollen particles have "hooks" and you'll get swirls.

Totally agree.

Another point: The UV from sunlight may cause your interior and headlights to age prematurely since the car is outside 24/7.

Use some good protection and restoration products to prolong their life.

OP said it sits in a driveway, so I'm assuming he has a house. Only one way to find out if the HOA will have a problem with it, but it's a hell of a lot more convenient than a car cover.

That's why it slanted at the top. Ever wonder why most houses don't have a flat roof? It's so that rain and snow, etc. doesn't sag it down, this way it slides off the sides.

1. Bird poop
2. Scratches if you put it on properly, not to mention it's a pain having to do so every time you park.

it's quite understandable and these are some good ways to solve it!

1. Car cover -> if you drive your car often this might be cumbersome. As well any dirt caught under the cover will scratch the paint if the cover isn't 100% tight against the car.

2. Good Paint Protection -> use a good wax that's a SEALANT and is a polymer such as BlackFire Wet Diamond, Zaino, etc. Carnaba wax won't protect for long.

3. A mini-tent -> detailers use them all the time and can be bought cheap from walmart or target and the like. Simply put a cinder block on each foot to keep it from blowing away with strong gusts. It'll keep a majority of the car cool and dry.

4. A full garage tent-> like the ones pictured above but your HOA may have an issue with it.

IMO the best solution is just a good cleaning and wax and maybe the mini tent. Also it's good to be proactive like readjust any sprinklers that come onto the driveway and may hit your car with well/reclaimed water.

parking under trees...sap, pollen and bird bombs. can't stand it. i have a car cover for my car used one for the last 4-5 years. its not that bad taking it on and off. just make sure the car is CLEAN when you put the cover on. although when it snows...can't do anything about it...the car is gonna get covered in snow exposed to the elements.

my car is a DD. so it depends how much love you have for your car and how much effort you wanna put forth to keep it as clean as possible.

I used to have to park under a big maple tree-bad idea-fallen branches caused lots of small dents. We wash and quick detail my husbands car since it does not get the garage. We do have a 2 car garage-my side has the tsx-his side-motorcycles.

Your going to have to drive the car through all that stuff anyways... Cars are meant to be outside, so just dont worry about it.

I hope you were joking when you said park under a tree for car protection. That is the absolute opposite of what you want to do. If possible I ALWAYS avoid parking under trees and I'm an anal car detailing guy. Also, car covers are more of a pain then they are worth. If you don't have a garage the best thing to do is park in a wide open area with nothing above the car... That goes for street lights as well.

I would not worry about it too much. I see your in jersey and winter would be when I use the car cover. You don't want to be hiding your car in the nice weather. I like to have my car sitting in my driveway , so everyone can see my TL. They see it, bc it gets a ton of compliments. However I do have a 1 car garage for winter time. Also I am building a car port next to my garage, the building inspector will not allow me to extend to a 2 car garage

My dad had one of those. It got a little windy, it pulled itself apart and left HUGE gougemarks in the top of his '38 Buick Special.

We're on the same boat . I know you love it but don't "overprotective". Don't have a garage is not a big deal. Just detail it and keep the wax on, wash it often, your neighborhood will love it.

So he can get everything from the storm & then whatever's in the tree on his car as well.

Bad idea is bad, op.

Check out a Car port. They sell them in kits that you can put together. I had the car tent when I lived at my last house and the never ending wind here in NJ was always trying to take it away. Car ports cost more, but are heavier and will hold the snow with no problems in the winter.

in defense of a car cover, my car parks in my driveway, under the neighbors trees which happen to be around the area i park in. they sap and drop pollen and the bird's do their business. can't/wont' street park b/c 1) paranoid it will be hit or vandalized (which is known to happen and i live a good neighborhood), 2) more of the neighbor's trees hanging high above the front of our house and the street (fall is real fun when we have to rake up their leaves off our yard), so...the lesser of all evils...carefully place car cover on vehicle when clean to minimize the sap, pollen, leaves falling into every crevice of the car, and the OMG what did the bird's eat?! i know i risk scratching...but...i try my best to be very very careful when putting it on and off the car.

if you don't care, then expose it away to all the nasty contaminants and have fun washing it every 5 minutes during the spring. i know people that go months without washing their car... i've thought of the tent thing too...i'm still trying to convince the home owner to knock down the shed and put in another garage.

Thought I'd list my personal recap:

No parking under trees for reasons listed.

Only paint protection to be used should be a good wax often, and not a wax with cleaners every time.(Mother's Products)

Keep the leather conditioned. Once cleaned, use the conditioner often. (Hard to find, but Mother's leather conditioner)

Do not rinse off and let air dry, especially if hard water is used. (Along with the mineral deposits from the water, the magnifying effect of a water droplet increases the sun's intensity on the spot where the water droplet is, causing an increase in UV damage, so the result is hard water deposits with etching beneath)

No car cover if a DD as it would need to be removed frequently and potential surface marks, but as Jamie mentioned, they do have their moments.

Use a sunshade in the windshield to protect the interior every time the car is parked.

Use the correct product to protect the dash and use it often.(e.g. F21 or 303)

I'm an advocate of hand washing only, and touch up any nicks immediately.

Go to a self service car wash occasionally and clean the undercarriage, especially during and after winter driving.

If any bird droppings, don't try and spot wipe. Needs to be removed quickly as it's highly acidic and as they use "gravel" to digest the food, it will scratch the painted surface unless fully drenched with water.

Good luck and with the proper attention, the car will look as new for many years.

You guys are crazy, I never do anything to my car except run it through a car wash every once in a while and it looks fine. It's just an Acura, not a Ferrari.
