I hate the salt trucks.

Well it snowed again here in NYC.
This morning, I drop my friend off on a two way street. Right when she was about to get out of the car, a salt truck drives pass me going the opposite direction and salt hits my driver side. This just pi$$es me off.

Does this happen to you?

I was on the turnpike a few weeks ago when it snowed. A salt truck was spraying salt on the right shoulder of car lanes between exit 9 and 8A. AS I drove by, it sprayed my entire right side from front to back as I was going 65mph.

Has anyone actually gotten damage from the salt hitting the car, it sounds terrible. But I hate riding behind them.

I got stuck some distance behind one in the express lanes on I-395 in Virginia on Feb. 28. Eventually I got past, but then I got stuck behind FOUR of them when I got to my exit. I wasn't able to hose off the car for three days. Really bugged the crap out of me.

I've started kicking around the idea of buying a used CR-V or Explorer to use (1) for hauling stuff around (like trips to the Home Depot for mulch), (2) for tailgating, and (3) for driving in crappy weather so that I can keep the TL clean. I'm just not sure it's worth $7000 or so just to have a "crapmobile" available.

I was going up the left lane in the city and a salt truck was stopped on a side street. As I'm getting to the intersection (in the left lane) he pulls out into the far right lane (3 lanes on a one way street). He wasn't even moving and throws the switch for the spreader .. absolutely raked the whole side of my car, windshield, roof, it sounded like I just caught a 12 gage w/ buckshot in the door. Haven't hand washed yet but used a touchfree and didn't see any damage. Here's hoping I don't find any after the thaw

I have sand trucks where I live, and they definatly cause damage. I went and had a clear bra put on and so far it's done it's job. When I lived in Europe they would salt the roads, but I don't remember any paint damage suffered by any of our cars, but I do remember going through a bunch of mufflers.

I hate those trucks too. I wash and waxed my car the day it was real warm outside, like 2 days ago, and now my NBP is almsot completly white. I never saw this much salt on my car before in my entire life. It almsot made me throw up. I went to pick up my cousin today and he told me it looks like a teradactyl took a shit on my car.

I was thinking the same, but realized that in Newark the train tracks sit a good 6 feet down from the platforms...
