I HATE Inconsiderate People!
My turn to vent...
I've had my TL in New York City for almost 3 years and managed to be ding free until now. I came home from work on Friday to find this beauty on my door. I freakin hate inconsiderate people who have no repect for others' cars. The great part is I always park far away in end spots, but this one happened while I was parallel parked on the street. My guess is someone double parked next to me to let someone out.
Does anyone have any idea how much this would cost to fix? I know paintless dent repair is supposed to be great for door dings, but clearly this ding took off some paint. Could I still use the paintless dent repair to take out the dent and then touch up the scratch?
Yes, I know she needs a wash. Thanks for your help and for listening...

You can either do 1 of the following:
1. First get the dent removed by PDR. Buy touch-up paint (real 3 stage stuff from HandA, and apply the paint until over-filled, then level with wetsanding and put some clear on it. This would be very cheap and would not harm the resale value of the car (entire door being painted plus other panels being blended)
2. Take the car to a body-shop and have them take out the dent, spray the entire panel with paint and surrounding panels with paint.
just a word of caution, WDP paint is very, and i mean very hard to match. If you go with the method 1, you will still have your factory paint and only that scratch may mis-match. If you go with option no 2, the entire side may need to be repainted in order to make it look right, that would involve insurance, which may raise your rates.

I think Texas has more stupid people than Jerks. 3 years no dents... I park next to a white SUV (with lots of space around my car)... Walking away I say, "That car will hit me".
What do ya know... they managed to put a 3 inch long scratch and dent like yours behind the rear door to the wheel.
3 years is a good run... No broken windshilds, keyings, door dings (knock on wood). Good luck with your repair.

Looks damn ugly, and almost seems like a PITA to hookup, but i guess for those days when you just can seem to find a big enuff spot or are forced to park near jagbags, it may come in handy.
But, it does seem like it can scratch...especially if your car is filthy Or is some yahoo decides to tinker with it cuz of his/her overgrown curiosity.

I have a similar ding on my WDP, a body shop will take care of that, that is very minor and should cost more than $100.
The reason why in NYC you are more prone to dings is because we have over 20 million cars on the road, every single day...so probability that there will be a lot of jerks parking next to you is high. My bumper was scratched on the 2nd day I had the car.
Let me know which shop you went to, and how much it cost to repair the damage.
Good Luck

To the OP - Sorry this happened to you; I SERIOUSLY hate how inconsiderate people are when it comes to damage to other people's cars. You should be able to get PDR for the dent and some touch up for the scratch. A headache, for sure, but time in a body shop would be a bigger inconvenience and may not get you a better result.
DMZ - this isn't the place for this crap. You want to spout your political opinions on AcuraZine then got to Ramblings. Don't take the OP's thread off-topic.

Thanks a lot everyone for your replies. Looks like I am going to be taking the route of having the dent taken out and then applying touch-up paint. I definitely don't want to mess with blending panels and all. I just wasn't sure if a PDR place would work on this kind of scratch, but from the replies, it sounds like it shouldn't be a problem. I'm away on business for the next week or so but as soon as I return I am going to find a shop. I'll post up some pictures when it's all fixed up.

ugh...bastards...i hate it when people don't say thank you after you stop for them to merge in...just a thought haha
good luck with that! shouldn't be too bad...probably have to ding it back out, sand it and then repaint it; although i'm not quite too sure why you couldn't get the dent out via dentless repair and then sand it down yourself...................and then use touchup paint to cover it up and then...buff buff buff...? i dunno...haha good luck!

Update
Thanks for all of the replies. Just had the dent removed by a PDR guy and I am VERY satisfied with the results. Best part is, I didn't even have to leave my parking spot. I feel so much less worried about getting door dings now that I see how easily they can be removed. Now all I have to do is find some time to touch it up, sand and buff. Here are some pictures...
In action...
No more dent...
PM me if you want the guys name and number. I'll post more pictures when I complete the repair.

I'm still working on that scratch, adding one layer of touch-up paint at a time. It's almost time to sand it down, I'll try to finish up after work today and post pictures.
