Heck, no one under 21 should even be allowed to own a TL. My first car was an Oldsmobile Alero which was a good starter car and I admit, I drove it like a bat out of hell. But I'm 29 now and I had to work/save to finally get my TL, which I deem my "grown up, working with a lil' sumthin sumthin" vehicle. Maybe some can relate, but when these kids do stupid stuff like this in nice cars, it just makes me wanna go at it with the hands, ya know. And save the "I learned my lesson" crap, ak because thanking God in one post but using "out smarted" in your title makes you look like a complete douche. If you're doing close to 100 in HOV, scaring people, don't have the knowledge to decipher a law enforcement vehicle from a regular passenger car (which isn't hard to do but comes with time), and then add insult to injury by flashing your highs at it........................I don't know how to finish this
I resent the first sentence, not all of us under 21ers are like this, I worked my ass off to buy my TL, by myself, without help from my parents or anything, and there are people in this thread saying i shouldnt own a TL because im under 21 or 25? Yeah screw off..

Drifting
The car I had at 16 had 110HP and was over 3000 lbs (81 Cutlass with a 231 V6)....it had a hard time getting past 75mph. Perfect car for a 16 year old. I didn't dare buy a car with more than 200HP until I was in my 30s. Otherwise I would be too tempted to be stupid (or more stupid than I already was with my much slower cars).

So you came up with 15-20k on your own by the time you were 21? I'm not saying it's impossible, I just find it unlikely cause when I was 21 I was making $9/hr (which was considered above average for my age group) and it took all the money I had just to drive a neon. You probably had help at least partially from your parents but won't admit it.

I work as a waiter in a fine dining Italian restaurant, I make upwards of 25/hr on a good night, and yes, it is very hard work, Food service, be it upscale or not, is all a pain in the ass because your customers are almost always pompous assholes

There is no way a real cop is going to do that. Unless it's some Barney Fife idiot who has no clue.
The OP got away with one, good for him, but his parents should be the ones who read all these rants. I don't understand people who would give a new driver a car like this. I have an 18yr old that I won't let drive my TL because his head isn't in the right place yet.

my first car was an 87 camry that my parents bought new in 87. Thing sat in the garage for years. I fixed it up and used that for a few years.
Eventually I purchased my first car in 98. It was a VW GTI VR6.
By the time I was 21, I wasnt out of college yet but, I was making 55-60K annually.
Impossible, no,
highly unlikely, no
My parents have money but, my dad made sure I grew up not depending on anyone for $. Only my sisters got what they wanted. Despite my older sister crashing EVERY CAR my dad got her.
Things can be accomplished in life without financial assistance from your parents... Except college.

The only scenario I can think of where someone still in school can make above 50k a year is if his dad is some bigshot CEO and gives him a high paying job in his company.

Now that is not believable. How could anyone be making that kinda money while still in college, considering that starting salaries for new grads is 35-40k, and that's for people graduating in engineering or comp-sci, everyone else starts even lower.

Whats not to believe? while in school my aunt started her law firm and basically hired me as a consultant to implement their IT infrastructure I was 19 at the time.
So while working towards my BA, I was also gaining experience in the real world.
Experience is more of a factor than having a degree with no experience.
You think 35-40k for an engineering grad is on par? Thats basically under paying them.
I'm in NY btw, so salaries up here are higher than most other cities.

Babnik I'm sorry you may have had it harder in your earlier years than some of us but, believe me, salaries like that are possible with luck. With my statement earlier of making 25 an hour, while working 30 hours a week, i would have been making between 30 - 40k a year at my Waiter job
But lets not derail this thread anymore with salary talk, OP was stupid, he made a big mistake, a mistake i imagine he wont make again at least for a long time.. lesson learned, please drive safely
