how you turn on the heat?
#2
you have it on "auto" just increase the temp if its still not warm enough. if you do not want the a/c on then press the "a/c" button it will say "a/c off" on the top of the console. leaving the a/c on with heat on is fine and will act as a de-humidifier.

If you've been using the A/C and you switch it off, it's likely to fog your windshield as the air blows through the wet A/C core.
Why not just leave it to do what it wants in Auto mode? Why turn off the A/C?

Doesn't turning off the A/C save gas and wear on the compressor?

You don't turn Auto off. It's why the button is called Auto. No matter what button you push, the A/C will turn on (defroster, Auto, etc.).
I was wondering if leaving the A/C on all the time wore down the A/C system of the car.
Anyone know?

I've not noticed a change in average gas mileage between having the A/C on or off. But I do prefer to keep the cabin air dry, so I leave it on. It seems I just read somewhere that the A/C should be run at least once a week just to keep the system working properly.
How to turn off AUTO: Choose anything else, such as MODE, defrost, etc. It's all covered quite nicely in the manual.

i leave it on all the time on auto, it doesn't waste that much gas. i've tried leaving the a/c on and off while driving and i have not seen any huge gains in mpg. maybe extra 1 mpg from leaving it on.

I take it out of Auto fairly regularly if it's cold outside and I don't want it blowing air on my feet (I especially do this if I have just been to the store and have something cold on the floor in the back, like beer or frozen pizza). I usually tell it "climate control vent, "fan speed 2," and sometimes I make sure to turn off the A/C.

i just don't like to leave the AC on because it takes power from the car. When I shift gears i'm not as smooth doing it because there's less power. I use to notice this alot in my integra. The minute you turned on the AC in that car you could feel the engine drop off

I don't think the compressor runs if the heater is on. That doesn't make sense. I always use the Auto and there is never that lack of HP you get when the ac is on during the winter months. I regularly get 25-27 MPG, winter and summer, even when the ac is on during hot months. I drive a mixed loop of highway and city.

In the winter, unless the car starts to fog up, I run with the AC OFF most of the time. Once a week or so, I let the car run on Auto so the AC compressor operates.
The refridgerant has lubricating oil in it and running the compressor one per week is a good way to keep the whole system lubricated. It will prolong the life of the car's air conditioning system.

If I understand correctly, to have the fan on and the AC compressor off you just press A/C to turn on the system, then press A/C again to turn off the compressor, but you still have the fan on. You can adjust the fan speed as well.
AC compressor turns itself on and off if you have the A/C ON icon on the display, depending on the temperature you set on your climate control and the actual temperature in the cabin, even if you have heater on. The A/C prevents humidity build up so your windows won't fog.
As far as I know, the compressor also turns itself off when you floor the gas pedal or do a rapid acceleration. As far as smoothness during shifting and other problems, the motor actually has enough torque, IMO, to overcome the compressor's load that *I* don't feel major difference between AC on and off.

Using it does wear the compressor, and takes engine and electric power, but you want to run it weekly to circulate the oil in the system.
I also take the system out of auto a lot, on any longer drive I tend to not want my feet to roast, I want warm air on my body, and auto mostly does heat to the feet. I usualy pick dash and feet vents, or just dash vents.
