How is the torque dampener suppose to work?

How is the torque dampener suppose to work?

I am doing some work on my rear engine mount in my 07 tl type s MT and removed the rear torque dampener. I figured I'd check to see if it is still working properly. I press on it and it goes in with some dampening effect but stays in position. I then have to pull it up and again it seems to dampen and stay in position. Is this the way it is suppose to work or is it suppose to rebound after I press it in?

I believe it's supposed to rebound after you press it in. The main goal of the damper is supposed to keep the engine from bouncing around when under load; if it's staying in position under load I'd think that it's shot, especially if it's the original one.

My theory would be that it should be dampened on both acceleration and deceleration. If it were to rebound, then when decelerating the motor would lunge forward and be placing more force onto the front motor mount. I'm going to call Acura and see if they have any idea since it's quiet in the forums on this topic.
