you need a T30 Bit and a socket wrench, theres two screws holding the airbag, one on each side. It has a bit of locktite so it's hard to break at first after that it's cake. also when removing the sterring wheel (if you are) you need a steering wheel puller.

I have a 2005 Acura TL and the remote radio switch lamp on the steering wheel is burned out. I see a lot of information about taking out the airbag to do this and that does not seem to difficult, but I also see how some are saying the T30 Torx screws are put in with loctite and can be difficult to remove sometimes requiring a screw extractor which of course I could do also, but would like to totally avoid. I was wondering if anyone knew if I just remove the two screws that actually hold in this switch can the switch be wiggled out without removing the airbag or even messing with it. The reason I ask this is that I saw the following quote on the internet about this:
I have a 2006 TL and just replaced the lights in the cruise control pod without removing the airbag, or the steering wheel. I just removed the two screws from the back of the steering wheel that hold the pod and wiggled the pod from under the airbag. The material around the pod is surprisingly flexible.(just be patient and careful)

I have done this a couple times. Easy job, no reason to go through hassle of disconnecting battery either. Busy unplug the airbag connector prior to messing with anything and your fine. Pulls right out and is not more than a 10 min job.

So you are saying you have pulled out the switch without pulling off the airbag?

He's saying he's removed the airbag a couple times, in no more than 10 minutes.
Do it right and just remove the airbag.
The T30 Torx is NOT difficult to remove at all. Don't be worried.
You're not dealing with a rusted screw on the exterior of the car.

Don't let that scare you though because airbag removal really is simple.

Oh sorry maybe I should have phrased that better because now I see you are talking about a specific switch and I was just responding to the original question about airbag removal. Like guitarplayer said I'm just referring to the airbag removal. With that said though I have had to remove and swap all the switches as well and im pretty sure the airbag must come out in order to get to those.

Somewhere on here is a link to D/L the Acura factory service manual, if you don't have it do a search and get it. Priceless tool to have. I have used mine a number of times, even for simple stuff.

i am in the process of doing this to change some bulbs as well and also would like to have no SRS light. So the trick is to disconnect the battery as well. I know it was said earlier that will work but has anyone done that and it not work as far as the SRS light goes?

The only way I can see you getting an SRS light is if you turn ignition on or start the car with the airbag disconnected.

I have done this multiple times and no SRS codes or lights afterwards. I personally don't see a reason to disconnect the battery though because the very first step is to disconnect the airbag plug in the steering wheel which immediately cuts power to it. So my point is you should get no SRS light if you disconnect the battery or leave it connected makes no difference. You will not get any lights!
