I have been looking to buy a low mileage (~10,000 miles) used '07 or '08 TL, and I'm wondering how to gauge the price on one. Should the discounts that dealers are giving on remaining '08 models impact used car values?

For example...

I've got a dealer that will sell me a new '08 w/ Navi for about $30,000. I'm also looking at a private party used '08 w/ Navi with 11,000 miles. He is asking $33,000, but compared to a new '08, I think a more reasonable price might be $28,000.

Do used cars take a hit like this due to dealer incentives on new models? This would make the data from KBB and Edmunds suddenly inaccurate.

By the way, I'm not necessarily buying a new one because I haven't found the color combination I like.

The price of a used TL should definitely be affected by the price drop on the remaining new 2008's.

I picked up my '08 TL with Nav, 13,000 miles about 2 months ago for $28,000. So your thought of $28,000 for the private party TL is right on, in my opinion. Good luck.

I would think that private party deal would be worth about $27-28K.

I recently paid $28K for a certified pre-owned 2008 TL that had not been previously titled, and had about 12,000 miles.

Thanks for the feedback. Called the private party and he was surprised at how cheap you can get the new '08s for now...didn't want to take that much of a hit, so he's going to hold onto it. (He'll probably hope for someone that doesn't realize the current prices of new ones!)

Never fear...found a similar one...'08 w/ 11,000 miles...at a dealership, although it was previously a "corporate fleet vehicle". I think I'll check it out, though, to see what kind of deal I can get on it.

I would rather pay the extra 2k for a brand new one if you an used one is around 28k.
