It goes down all the way to where the bottom of the shift knob hits the shifter gate plate. Be careful not to go down too far or you will not be able to use the manual sportshift.

So all you have to do is just keep turning the shifter and it will go lower? Does it thread itself further up inside?

+1

i totally agree. i did this and it worked great, but when i popped it in to "manual" it hit the silver edging around the shifter. so i just had to unscrew it a little and its all good now. this is a great free mod and it looks great when it sits a little lower. the only time you need to cut it is if you have an after market knob or the small wood know from the 2G TL. it is a lot shorter and there isnt as much room to twist it down.

dont mind the blurry camera pics, but this is about as low as you can go without hitting anything. i dont have any stock photos though.

and with it in "manual" mode"

^^^ thanks for the pics.

but is your knob a bit crooked? o_O looks like it

also wanted to know if you decided to put it back at stock height would it be loose? i just dont get how you can keep making it go lower without hurting anything down under xP

yeah, it is a little crooked but thats because thats how my hand sits. i could just turn it a little and straighten it out, i just dont want to. i did it for ergonomics not aesthetics

i dont think there would be any problem putting it back to stock height. it is just a screw and its hard to turn, so i dont think it will ever get really loose unless you twist it every day. from what i can remember it took like 10-14 turns to get it down that low. i actually had it lower but had to raise it up because it was hitting the plastic edging. i dont see any reason to raise it though. it looks fine and it creates some extra space to get in to the top storage compartment when you are in park, so for me this is a keeper.

It won't hurt anything. The inside of the knob has plastic threads and it makes new threads very easily.
