How to ship a sway bar?

Hey guys, so I don't really know if anyone has ever asked this, but I can't seem to find anything so figured I'd ask.

I need to ship my stock sway bar, from a base 04 Auto, from So Cal to Chicago. Amount of time isn't that crucial, looking more for a cheaper option. Anyone have any idea what it'd cost, and which company to use? I figured Greyhound would probably be cheap, but I'm really not sure.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I bought 2 used bars that were just wrapped in plastic with a piece of cardboard taped to it with the label. Trying to get it to fit in a box will cost a lot more to ship, UPS/FedEx etc will take it as is with a label.

well what i would do, and i know it sounds crazy, is find a box for it. put the sway bar in the box. take said box to UPS and ship it out.

that's probaby the easiest way.

Cheapest practical way, not necessarily the easiest way. Obviously I don't mean walk to Chicago and deliver it by hand as the cheapest, but what would be the cheapest company to use?

Also, thank you 350 for a useful answer. I know you said you bought them, so you may or may not have paid for shipping, but do you have any idea what the cost was?

^ Tis' alright, I know the same shit gets asked on here all the time and it gets annoying. Does anyone know the rough weight of the bar? I've never shipped anything before that didn't fit in an envelope so I'm kind of dumb about it, hah.

I just checked my eBay history, the seller charged me $14.43 to send me a TL rear bar. The other one I purchased was for the rear of my 07 Impala and it was $20. They were basically both last summer. Don't recall who they were shipped by but probably FedEx or UPS. Also if you can, don't go to the UPS store, go to a UPS hub if there's one by you, the rate is much less. Just in general USPS is cheapest for small items (flat rate boxes) but the others are cheapest for anything large.

Its not that, its just counterintuitive. If you dont have a scale, you can easily go to UPS/Fedex and just ask them how much does this weigh and the cost to ship to xxx. Remember it also goes by the dimensions if you place it in the box.

Did you buy a new one and want to sell your old one????

Just reuse the box the new one came in???

Thats what I did. Just saying.

Fedex is cheaper than UPS usually. And if you can ship it to a business address it is even cheaper.
Look to spend around 18.00 shipping and it will take 3-5 days.

USPS would not be a cheaper alternative in this scenario.

If you do not have a box then there are several places that you can get cardboard from. You will need a box cutter, tape and a label. UPS or Fedex will give you free labels for printing your own and have a sticky side. Just us a sharpie to add the addresses.

Easy Peasy.
