How often do you guys get your oil changed?

When I bought the car the salesman told me to not let it go below 30% oil life. I just had mine changed when it hit the 30% mark at a different dealership and the new sticker they put on says to do it again when it hits 15%.

Do you guys go by mileage or trust the oil life percentage on the car? And no matter which way you use how often do you get it done?

^ I just do it when it looks like it needs to be changed. No equation to it or anything. I think mine is usually around 15% though.

^problem solved.
If you read the links i provided it tells you that the MID is correct and calculates every 6000 miles.

Where's IHC to chime in lol. As soon as it hits 15% on the MID the following weekend I change it. Usually around 6k.

I've never had my oil changed in either of my 3G TL's. I do it myself.

Every 5,000 no matter what. Probably overkill but that's fine.

Wait until the MID says it's <15%. Every time. Regardless of mileage. Or, once a year. Whichever comes first.

How about you let it get down to 15% then send it in for analysis and see how its doing?? Then you take the guessing out of it

Synthetic oil and filter cost me about $30 with tax. Changing it once every 6 months or so (when the MID hits 15%) won't break the bank.

Every 5,000 miles or 6 months. Which ever comes first.
I do 6,000 in the Civic. No monthly thing here cause I hit 6,000 pretty quickly.

Every 6 months. I'm usually way under guidelines for mileage.

I also change it every 3000 miles..

Also as the other member I am located in PR, I had a thread once discussing this issue since I would never see the MID tell me what maintenance I needed due to Acura of PR requesting I bring the car in at 3000 miles intervals..

My car is a Lease and I purchased an extended warranty plus the car has what they call a Platinum Maintenance Package which covers all required basic maintenance..

I just reached 32k miles last week and have never paid for any maintenance at the dealer..

It's possible the member you quoted has something similar..

Benefits/Cons for this I never got a concrete answer from anyone in my other thread..

Dealer recommends >15% or one year for my synthetic oil change, whatever is first, so that's what I follow.

if you wait until 15% it will show a code of what service needs to be done. I follow the maintenance minder-must be working-I now have 107K problem free miles. My good friend is a acura service manager recommened that I follow it.

Every 3k miles here. Any car my family or myself has owned has it's oil changed every 3k miles and I can't remember the last time we ever needed true maintence on the car. The only thing I recall ever needing on any of our cars is high mileage replacements like timing belts and struts.

Cost me $35 at my local mechanic or $60 at the dealer (they wash it, vaccum ect..leave me mints on my armrest lol).

So you pay $25 extra for a 5-minute half-assed wash/swirl job, $1 vacuum, and $0.10 worth of mints? Sounds like a wise move.

You can do it yourself for around $30. It's quick, easy, and you know that it was done right and with a high quality oil/filter.

It should be illegal to change your oil at 3K, the days of needing to change your oil ever 3K are decades past yet we continue to dump huge amounts of perfectly good oil down the drain every day because of this old saying it makes me angry!!!

You actually can go 10K on a good synthetic but I wouldn't personally do this without an oil analysis to check the status.

Analysis is ok for determining life left in the oil but just don't fall for the old bitog idiocy of using UOAs to determine engine wear.

Keep in mind, the oil may have a ton of life left in it but you still have the contaminate load to deal with.

It's a little short but I wouldn't say a total waste. Again, you have the contaminate load to deal with. Modern oils start out low on ZDDP and it only gets lower with time. 20wts are less tolerant to fuel dilution. I personally do mine at 5,000 but I'm also running Redline and I do mostly freeway miles.
