I've heard people claim that in particularly cold environments when one is parking outdoors it is important to keep the tank at least a quarter full. I don't know whether that's the case since I live in the DC area and I'm normally parked indoors (that's why I bought a house with a garage), but I do know that I was up in Quebec one time when the temperature was down around -10F and my yellow light came on when I turned on the car. Didn't have any problems. On the other hand, I used to have endless problems when I was in high school and driving a 1977 Ford; thing had lots of trouble starting if the tank was low. I suspect this may be one difference between modern fuel injection and 70s-era carburetors.

I regularly run my TL until the yellow light comes on, though, and it often says "0 Miles to Empty" for a while before I get around to stopping.

Come on people!!!!!!!!!!!!Questions is MPG not miles per/tank!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I get about 25mpg no matter how I drive. Thanks ya'll [sic].
The original post asks, although in a very poorly-phrased fashion, for miles per tank and says nothing about miles per gallon. (If it asked for mileage, I think the moderators would have locked it by now since there are so many mileage threads out there.)

Too many variables for me to answer the original question. Traffic on my commute is too variable from day to day for me to get a consistent miles per tank figure, and it's an irrelevant figure anyway because it doesn't address actual fuel economy.

You need to read past the first sentence. The OP was asking about miles per tank of fuel.

I average 28-29, but I commute 50 miles each way to work, freeway the entire way averaging around 70mph on the commute. Very little city driving. I have an 08 TLS as well. If I drive solely in the city, my mpg drops significantly.

As far as miles per tank, I usually get around 330 miles between fillups, but I generally don't even let the low fuel light come on. With this said, I would think that I could easily get another 100-150 miles per tank before completely empty. I usually fill up with Conoco, but sometimes stop at Sam's Club because it is so much cheaper. Always 91 octane.

Anyone know much about the fuel from Sam's Club stations. I understand that Conoco, BP, etc. add detergents, etc. that are better for the engine, but I am not sure how to find out if Sam's does this as well.

It is good reading, and informative.
Back on topic, I get around 300 miles/tank. I don't like to run near empty to avoid condensate in the colder months especially. I average about 26 mpg. Based on that, I could get 400 miles per tank.
This week, I added a K&N intake, P2R thermoblock, and Braille battery to my '07 TL-S. It will be interesting to see what happens to the mpg....IF I can keep my foot off of the "loud pedal"
Where did you get the K&N Intake and how much did it cost?

I used the one I had on my '05 TL, so I really don't remember that far back.
Technically, K&N does not offer one for the TL-S. The K&N comes convertible as a short ram, which I used. It tucks nicely out of the engine heat, but I ran into a clearance problem with the battery, especially with ther P2R. So I bought a Braille which clears, and shaves 25-30 lbs. off the front end as icing.
I am very happy with the results

Average 24mpg, if you want to know the per tank miles multiply it by the # of gallons the TL's gas tank holds. I don't know off hand, and don't feel like looking it up.

SPAW1, are you referring to K&N short ram or the actual drop in replacement filter?

I'm running the K&N filter in my stock set-up, I don't see any noticeable improvements in mpg.

My first mod was to run the K&N drop in, and didn't feel or see any changes in power or mpg. Next, I added P2R thermoblock, and felt a small but noticeable increase in torque. Lastly, I pulled the airbox and installed the K&N shortram, and ran into the clearance problem with the battery, so I put in the Braille.

Well I know how the 87 oct gas will be good for you... buy a freakin Hyundai Accent (Pink) and race alongside the TL.

On 08 TL-S I get about 300 per tank, depends on driving, but on 5600 miles so far I am averaging 21.8 MPG mostly commute with 45 min drive suburban roads 45MPH limit, frequent lights. On some highway runs I get 27-29 MPG. The fuel low indicator sucks, it usually comes on with 3-4 gallons still in the tank. On my 07 navi TL I was getting 22.4 average over 10K miles. so the Type-S under normal driving is not a big penalty.

i normally get about 240 with city driving. just recently went on my first road trip in the tl,and got 371 miles

WTF!!!!! my 07 has only 7500 miles and I get about 210 btween fillups for my city driving!!!!!!!!!!!!! BS@! is there a BEST gas to use, obviously i use the premium, however I am curious if a "brand" is better for our cars....help b4 i kill it!!!!

@jeowen - I found a pretty big difference between Shell brand premium and Total brand premium making the same highway drive. About 220 highway miles with outside temp 15-20 °C and I got about 24 MPG with the Total gas and 27 MPG with the Shell gas. I obviously can't control for other factors such as headwind and the like, but I drove with the cruise set @ 75 for most of trip each way and those were the number I got.

My advice to you is begin to track your fuel and driving habits as you track your MPG. Outside temperature is also an important factor as lower temps = lower mileage. Also, I'm stuck using winter formulations of fuel which as I understand it negatively impacts mileage (10-15 % from what I've read). Another factor is ethanol content. Most gas around these parts use E10 (i.e. contains 10 % ethanol). Ethanol also robs your car of mileage so you should check with your local gas stations to see if they're selling blends or "pure" gasoline. Finally, see S PAW1's post and try one of more of the gas stations at that URL.
