how long/far can you keep/drive the loaner vehicle?

Long story short. I dropped off my 06 TL on Wednesday for B1 service + recall + various warranty repairs, and I received a MDX as a loaner.

The service advisor called me on Thursday 4PM saying my car is ready, but I was too far away that I said I'd go pick up on Friday.

I am going to Vegas tomorrow (Saturday) and will be returning the following Wednesday. I am thinking of driving the loaner to Vegas (from LA) instead of using my TL.

What do you think? Should I go return the MDX now so I drive my TL to Vegas tomorrow, or should be cheap and keep the MDX until next Wedndesday? Thanks.

That seems alittle far fetched really. I took a loaner to Vegas earlier this year when I took my car in on a Thursday and it wasn't going to be done till Tuesday. But in your situation your car is done now and has been for a day, I don't think they would want you to keep it.

it really depends on your loaner agreement, my dealership charges $30 per day for every day over 24 hours of notice. So it might cost you a pretty penny if you keep it until next Wednesday

You got it!

Loaners are given to customers solely as goodwill gestures. There is no law forcing dealerships to make loaners available.

Your TL is ready now. They called you yesterday and told you to come get your car. You were too far and agreed to return it today. Stick by your word and don't ruin it for the next guy that goes in asking for a loaner.

I'm sure you don't want some guy tooling around in your car without your permission.

Yeah, cause we know a service advisor that will steal your car for the weekend like a jackass!

you will never get a loaner or goodwill warranty service ever again
AND a note will be placed in your cars file about your attitude that the dealer is a free loaner car service for your road trips.

If you need to go somewhere and your car is suddenly in the shop,- fair is fair- but to drop off and expect to keep their car as long as you please.....

wouldnt it be funny if they really did take your car on an extended test drive- to say- vegas- where you see it on the street--- and they see you in their car!

dude, i would agree. dealerships CAN charge for their loaner cars - it's supposed to be a complimentary service. don't push your service department if you have good ties with them...
