how to deal with dealer

never had a problem like this so I really don't know what to do. On Mon I had my power steering pump replaced, it was a wet and dirty (salty) day in CT. I picked my car up and drove home. I noticed on Tues (about 24 hrs later) my driver's door - front and rear has scratches and small dents. I know whole heartedly it wasn't on my watch that this happened. The tech said he didn't do it or see it and the wash guy said he saw it, but thought it was already there. Service Manager says it didn't happen in his shop he would have been told by an employee if it was done there, and disagrees that he has any responsibility towards the $780 in repairs, i received 5 quotes that range from $580-$936. And i need to add at least another $200 in car rental.

Where do I go from here? There is no way I can prove they did it, just like they can't prove I did it. Is this just one of those frustrating things that happens in life or do i have a chance if i talk to the GM or Acura CS themselves?

thanks

Call your insurance agent and ask what to do. You have comprehensive coverage for a reason!

That's bullshit...I'd have a nice chat with the GM, if he's on vacation, call Acura corp. and have this issue dealt with.

I'd call Acura regardless and get the issue documented.

Good luck

Yep first call Acura if the GM isn't available.

When I have cars come into my shop we document all visible damage and the C signs off saying that he agrees that it was there. That way we are responsable for whatever happens that isn't on that document.

It protects both parties.

Sounds like they owe you the fix if this wasn't done.

Yea, I took mine in for service recently and the service rep did a walk over of my car to check for any damage before I handed over the keys. I thought this was great since I don't have any dings or scratches on my car. Something all dealers should be doing.

damage agreement

we agreed to disagree, since there was no walk around before or after service neither of us could prove the damage was done at the shop. the GM decided and I agreed that it would be fair to take the average of the estimates and divide by two. A drop in the bucket for them but less of a burden on me. at least now i can skip going through insurance and seeing my rates jump. He also mentioned it is policy to do a walk around before and after service, but assumed it was overlooked on the cold rainy/icy day we had that day...sounded like heads were going to roll.

i learned my lesson, make them join you outside to view the car!!

if he neglected to do the walk-around before and didn't see the damaga, the dealership is at fault.

i didn't see that written rule anywhere.

the big debate was proving it didn't happen the day before somewhere else. neither person could prove 100% where the damage occurred. very frustrating, but happy to get half.

the dude told you face-to-face that it was policy, and they neglected to follow it, regardless of weather

if the dealership was supposed to do a walk-around before and after, and didn't, then its their fault neither of you have proof.

if you're happy with half, go for it, but maybe its just me, but if i knew it was done at their place, i would go for the full bang.

And I hear going directly for Acura is the best way if the dealer is a dick.
