How accurate is the 08 TL MPG?

The car computer tells me that my avg mpg is 25, i just want to know how accurate that is.

thank:thumbsup:

I've had mine for 2 1/2 months now and it has been within 1-2 MPG when I fill up.

So I'd say it's fairly accurate. I reset the trip and the MPG screen every time I fill up.

LaCostaRacer Jun 6, 2010 07:49 PM

I have found the MID calculated mileage to be within 1 MPG of actual which is pretty good because the MID calculates mileage in whole numbers so you have to expect a +- 1/2 mpg variance anyway.

Calculate the mileage when you fill up and I think you'll experience the same. I will fill up my tank and stop at the second click of the pump.

I got 42 mpg last weekend with average mph at 69 mph!

It was 95% Highway. I got about 580 miles in one Fill up. I was Great!

damnnnn. its crazy. were you going downhill or something? i average 15 MPG locally with my TL-S :annoyed:. i rarely drive highway.

but i think the measurements of the TL is pretty accurate. its only off by about 1 mpg.

WhteTLS Jun 7, 2010 12:40 PM

I drove up and down 95.. from DC to NJ and drove around NJ all weekend and then back down to DC.

smarty666 Jun 7, 2010 01:39 PM

Typically mine is 1 mpg more than it actually is when I calculate it manually at the pump but since I know this, I always know this now, my actual mpg is always 1 mpg less roughly then what the computer one is telling me!

yiujai86 Jun 7, 2010 03:04 PM

It is quite accurate, always within 1 mpg.

Such a liar :yuck:

Let see how many miles you driven on your MID :)

princelybug Jun 7, 2010 04:46 PM

As with the other responses, it's usually within 1mpg of actual fuel consumption. On some occasions, it is between 1-2mpg of actual fuel consumption.

I always divide the # of miles I've driven by the amount of fuel I put in on each fill-up. This gives the most accurate fuel consumption readings. The fact that you can do this on the car's calculator makes it convenient.

I know it was hard to believe for me too! But it felt great not having to fill up all weekend :yum:.

I know I didn't go over 3500 rpms the entire time... Also, I drove the car in Manual Mode 80% of the time.. If that makes a difference..

princelybug Jun 7, 2010 06:21 PM

That's some seriously awesome gas mileage.

ladiesman217 Jun 7, 2010 09:42 PM

wow at 42 mpg thats like 5.6l / 100 km; i didnt even think that was possible

bisaballer12 Jun 7, 2010 10:38 PM

For those with the base TL's and not the type-S models how is the avg MGP looking?

What in the hell. That's literally better than what a Honda Civic gets on the highway. Nuts..

WhteTLS Jun 8, 2010 05:06 PM

what does everyone average in mpg when its all highway?

DanV's06TL Jun 8, 2010 10:33 PM

I'm averaging aboug 23mpg and 95% of my driving is highway... Houston traffic just sucks

Well, I filled up before I went to school. 30 miles each way, so 60 both ways.

By the time I got home, the MID said 27mpg.

Cyberdemon Jun 9, 2010 03:11 PM

I average 30-32mpg pure highway in my 6MT type S. My MID is usually +1mpg optimistic compared to the actual amount when I fill up. I've noticed the MID sometimes gets thrown off a lot more though when idling a lot (IE after I take the car to the car wash and it's sitting at 0mpg for so long, it won't actually burn that much fuel but the MID gets wacked out for another 50 miles)

JORTS Jun 9, 2010 07:24 PM

i have averaged 26 MPG over the last ~3000 miles per the computer...about 40% city 60% highway...i think my avg MPH is only like 32MPH as well...i love this car, it gets better gas mileage then my 98 2.3CL 5 speed

I pretty much maintained the same speed throughout weekend. Like when I was cruising on the highway. I was just on cruise control going a nice smooth 73 mph, made sure my rpms didn't go over 3 3.5 at all. And I wouldn't gun it at the lights and the majority of the miles were highway.

Hapa DC5 Jun 13, 2010 01:06 AM

^ what are you getting around town? 42mpg is extraordinary...

Souljah Jun 13, 2010 01:17 AM

Well I live in the Dc/Metro Area.. I get about 23-26 in the city.

Hapa DC5 Jun 13, 2010 12:05 PM

Wow good for you man! I'm usually getting 17-19 around town. Straight highway is 28 sometimes 29 with these tires. 50/50 driving nets me around 21-24

spinna1689 Jun 13, 2010 08:34 PM

thats some crazy gas mileage. i average about 33-34 mpg on the highway in my TL and i thought i was gettin great mileage...

Vortex Jun 13, 2010 09:37 PM

I average 30-31 highway in my 08type S. Last trip from VA to NJ produced 34 (calculated) running 75-80 the whole way. I am totally impressed!

SmileyOr Jun 14, 2010 03:46 PM

07 TL Type S with 75k and tires with just 1k on them. I just drove to the beach from Beaverton, Oregon (Fueled up) to Seaside, Oregon and back with a round trip of 143 miles. My fill up of ~5.1 gallons told me I averaged 27.7 mpg for the entire trip. I parked at the hotel and never drove again until the return highway drive.

On the way down I had the cruise control set for 57 mph. I did not accelerate to pass anyone. There was little traffic so I was not in need of much braking either. No slow vehicles at all.

My car's computer displayed 30 mpg average for the trip down at an average speed of 51 mph.

On the way back I did pass a few cars, but only when the highway opened up to 2 lanes in the same direction so I wasn't on the throttle as hard as I could have.

I also was not as economical with controlling my speed as there was a lot more traffic.

When I returned to the same gas station as I filled up at on the way there my average was down to 28 mpg at average speed of 46 mph.

For any of you not sure of the area the coastal pass peaks at ~1,650' so it was up and over a hill there and then returning over the same pass coming back. Elevation where I filled up was 200' so the trip started near sea level and ended at the sea, one way.

Around town with an average speed of 20 mph I get 18+.

I hate cars Jun 14, 2010 07:15 PM

All of this has been answered before many times. Average mpg and the reason why it varies so much is just a search away.

jsonkimz Jun 15, 2010 05:53 AM

I averaged about 31-32 mpg driving from Baltimore to Atlanta and back in a weekend. I was really happy about it, especially considering that was factoring in driving around Atlanta all day on Saturday (this is all according to the MID, of course). I took it pretty easy on the car, but I definitely could have gone easier. It's all about how aggressively you drive... it makes a HUGE difference.

But 42 MPG is just unreal for this car.
