First off, thanks for not taking offence to my response because I certainly didn't mean any by any stretch. I just wanted to clear up a few things about the supercars of my era.

No, I don't have any of the older machines but I often think of getting my hands on a vintage piece and pulling it all together. I have a neighbor who is building a Factory Five replica of a 1966 427 A/C Cobra. He's been at it for close to 2 1/2 years and is doing an absolutely superb job. It's close to being finished.. right now, it's in North Carolina getting painted. He's using a bored and stroked 302 (now at 331 cubic inches), AFR aluminum heads, CompCams roller cam with 1.7 roller rockers, after market intake and plenum, and, of course, headers. It's putting out 400 HP in a 2350 pound car.

I well remember the 289/271 "Hi-Po" Ford Mustang. I blew the doors off of one on George Washington parkway in '66. I mean, wasted him (I had the '66 SS 396/360 Chevelle at the time of which I was the original owner).

I also serious whipped a '67 Chevy II 327, though in '67, that model had been detuned to 275 HP. The same day, I beat a '66 GTO. This was all street racing, mind you.

My TL runs great! I just came back from a short trip (maybe 16 miles) and I nailed it in first, second, and third from a light. Hard to think that what's under the hood is a small cube, normally aspired V6 pulling around this 3600 pound sedan, eh?

I would bet mine would easily make it into the 14's. The Car and Driver road test you referred to was just this year with an A-Spec version (of couse, no difference in engine output from the basic TLs). The 5.6 0-60 you quoted is correct.. in the quarter mile, they managed a 14.3 at 99 MPH. These are indeed, incredible times for this engine and car and I both admire and respect the engineers for what they have accomplished.

I rarely get into my car (that means nailing the throttle) because the throttle response is SO good that I am constantly rewarded with a nice seat-of-the-pants feeling. I really do like this thing because it gives the best of three worlds. It satisfies those rare times for me when I like having an upscale car (my wife REALLY likes this about the car). It satisfies my more base interests where performance is key (this is where I tend to live most of the time). And it satisfies the "looks" factor. This car is just drop dead gorgeous.

I agree - give it some time. Although my 6MT got 25 mpg on the second tank - my third tank was 28 mpg which was a 320 mile roundtrip to Boston and back with basically all highway although I got into a nice run with an RX7, a WRX, and a GrandPrix doing 80-110 for a good 20 miles on I-84.

Keep in mind, I'm not revving the sucker yet since it's break-in time still. Even then, in the city the gas milage is poor.

undefinedundefinedI'm getting about 340 miles to a tank of gas and using highest octane . . . $ 2.11 per gallon by the way here in NJ! Had a Volvo S60 that got about 490 per tank with about the same size tank. I was told that once the engine "loosens up" I'll see better gas mileage - well, I have 4,000 miles and the gas mileage still sucks! But the car is great!!!

I've had my 5AT for 10 months and about 15k miles. Mixed city and freeway. Sorry folks, I'm still doing about 18-20 mpg. I'm afraid, despite what others have suggested, the mileage does not get better with age.

Ist tank in my '04 AT I averaged just a hair over 24mpg.

I average about 18-20 mpg on the MID and on calculated mpg (they agree).

On a road trip, I get 29-30 mpg.

Admittedly, I can't keep my foot from getting into it -often. I drive briskly.

On the Interstate, I drive the speed limit plus 9 MPH. I know that the radar operators usually set their alarm at 10 MPH over the speed limit and ignore anything less.

Does anyone expect to get more than 18-20 around town? With 270 HP?

Maybe you should have gotten a Civic or a hybrid.

Um...Acura advertises that the car gets 20/29 city/freeway. That has proven to be a very optimistic estimate, in my experience. Still love the car....don't love the mileage.

My 05 6MT TL is couple weeks old. My driving is 50% city and 50% HWY, and I'm getting 24m/g average.

I've had my 04TL 5AT for about 1.5 weeks and have poured in 42.5 gallons of fuel for 1150 miles, which equates to 27.1 mpg. Granted, there were 5-100 mile trips involved, but the remainder was "around town" type driving. According to the computer which seems to be pretty accurate, I get 31 mpg when cruising at 65-70 mph. I'm happy with that.

Don't know about the rest of you, but my TL s doing the same thing my former car, a 2002 Altima SE, did. In the warmer/hotter months, I get better fuel economy than in the cooler/colder months. At first, this came as a surprise, but then it makes perfect sense when you consider it.

In the warmer and hotter months, there is less oxygen per cubic foot of air drawn into the engine. This will cause the ECU to lean out the mixture a little because otherwise, too rich a condition would result. In the cooler and colder months, the opposite is true. A higher concentration of oxygen per cubic foot causes the ECU to add more fuel to each pulsation of the injectors in order to maintain the "perfect" fuel/air ratio. Even though you get better mileage in the warmer months, it comes at a price.. loss of power. The cooler months add the power. I don't know yet how much of a difference will be felt with my TL, but with my former Altima SE, it was quite noticable.

BTW, my to-and-from work milege during the summer was averaging around 26 MPG. Now it's down to around 24 MPG (I have been seeing a bit more traffic probably due to school being back in and vacations being over).

I have experienced almost exactly a 2mpg difference also between winter and summer on about 5 differenet late model cars.

i justt got my TL 3 weeks ago. I'm on my 3rd tank now and its getting better...... i do a lot of driving in the surburbs and then like 20% highway.... I avg about 250 a tank, is that decent?

I just filled up a few hours ago and checked my last fill from Friday. I had to run a lot of places on Saturday, so I racked up nearly 180 miles between Friday afternoon and this afternoon. For those of you who are familiar with the upper end of Virginia, almost all of my running around took place yesterday between Bealeton in Fauquier County to Manassas to Woodbridge/Lake Ridge/Occaquan then to Springfield. On a Saturday in the late morning to early afternoon, you will encounter a fair amount of traffic in many of these parts.

My mileage for the check was 28.83 MPG.

On my second tank now. I noticed the first tank seemed to go pretty quick too. I'm only getting an average of 19mpg around Northern VA. It'll be interesting to see what it does on the highway. I'm using high octane gas right now but that may quickly change if it keeps this up.
