Holyshit almost peed my pants.

well, today i was trying to catch up to a friend. I'm going on the on-ramp of the 10 freeway which is around a 45 degree curve, and I ended up taking it around 90 mph! (maybe a bit less, but +- 10mph around) The car semi-drifted the turn and didn't slow down a bit. friend who was sitting in the passenger sit literally flew sideways. good thing she got her seat belt on. It was a pretty cool experience and just thought i'd share it. 05 stock non a-spec.

Your car did not drift.. you experienced FWD oversteer, something that was common in the 1991-1995 Legend when pushed to its limits.

BTW, I wouldnt advise doing this ever again.

Youre joking right? VSA is always on....that means it was on when u "drifted" . When the car is FWD you can only do a power slide..(with the hlep of Handbrake.

I'm practically speechless. Next time you may not be so lucky to walk away. It doesn't matter what anyone on here says because you're not going to listen anyways. Just make sure if you decide to take these turns this fast next time (especially since you are an inexperienced driver) you are alone so if you do crash you don't take someone else with you.

This is exactly why I will not be getting my future son a friggin' Mustang or any relatively high priced and high-powered car. They think that the laws of physics don't apply to them when they drive, and then the next thing you know they're dead because they tried to show off.

90 MPH for an on ramp?! Are you insane?!

Hi, you most likely were oversteering... like this

instead of drifting like this

I call

I would say I am a VERY aggresive driver and I have truly tested out my car... there is no way you hit that ramp at 90.... unless you had some super sticky tires on there with a beefed up suspension... I just dont see it happening.... not at 90... maybe 60-70.... too many inconsistencies in the story....

what onramp to the 10 are we talking about (area/city). If its the ones I'm thinking in the san gabriel area....taking it at 90 is just plain stupid. you're lucky no one got hurt...granted i take turns just as fast as any other corner loving psycho...but theres a difference between doing it in an isolated area where you're not endangering anyone except yourself and a public area where you're possibly putting many people at danger. that aside...you didn't drift...all it was is oversteer...big difference between oversteering and drifting

edit: actually thinking about it more...i highly doubt you took that 45 degree onramp at 90mph. I've sat in an nsx in the hands of a very very good driver and going into a 45 degree turn at most....was maybe 70...75mph. Being that was in an nsx...i highly doubt your tl actually remained planted doing 90 in a 45 degree turn. Not trying to attack you or anything...just stating that your story seems highly incorrect

With my stock TL (non A-spec) sitting on the crappy Bridgestones, the best I can do on the cloverleaf is about 40-45 MPH with the rubber howling. I could probably push it harder, but I don't want to break loose and crunch my car. If the ramp he's describing is anything like what I'm driving, then 2x the speed sounds like BS to me.

Also, FWD cars are prone to understeer, not oversteer like in drifting. Unless he used his handbrake, I can't see any way he put his car into a drift-style slide. Maybe, if he's using a low gear and he lets off the throttle heading into the turn, the back-end "may" let go a bit and swing out, but it hardly seems likely.

ok...so i don't know what i was thinking earlier..but i confused a 45 degree turn with a 90 degree turn so disregard my edit LOL. but still...90mph is pushing it on a stock car...be careful

Sounds an awful lot like the long lost brother to that kid a few weeks back who claimed VSA wasn't working when he supposedly slid into a pickup and wanted Acura to give him a new car.

See?? This is why you shouldn't smoke crack when you're pregnant! Your kids will turn out like this.

I hope I'm never unlucky enough to be on the same road as the poster when I'm cruising around with my family. Total disregard for others. You get the award for today.

Taking curves at 90???
And you wonder why insurance for drivers under 25 is so high.

Okay the original poster obviously doesn't even own a TL. Anyone who does will know that VSA is on by default every time you start the car.

Thumbs down

Hey I jumped over a barn once while being chased by Roscoe P Coltrain...

Oh.. no.. wait that was the Dukes of Hazzard... neva mind!

Sorry but I too am skeptical..

I find this hard to believe... 90 mph...on an On Ramp???

Though the TL is avery nice car and responsive to the road.

It ain't no Formula One Car.

I doubt that anyone other maybe a very experienced or pro driver could pull off
a turn at that kind of speed.

And like others have said "Not a smart thing to do with passengers in the car"

Driver capability will still take a backseat to TL capability in extreme situations. At 90mph in a FWD TL on an on-ramp, even Mario Andretti couldn't hold it on the road.

I think you understeered your car instead of oversteered. To oversteer a FWD car you would need to have a rear sway bar / or stiff rear springs, and have to be pushing on the accellerator while turning. The other way to oversteer is by using the e-brake to make the back end give out, but still pushing on the accellerator to control the front at that speed.

Ask your self is she is a good enough friend not to sue you if she got hurt with your stunt. If so let her try the same the same thing with you in the passenger seat. If not you better get more insurance. Lots more!

I think the TL will do more than 45 on a tight turn. I am pretty sure we've entered at 45 and throttled up, which is really fun

Depends on your definition of a tight turn. Is the road surface banked on an angle?

What tires? What temperature? Road surface? Wet weather?

The point being, 90 mph is just BS
