High Power LED for DRL

I've been reading extensively on the new products released by V-Led and JLC lighting. Their products claim to have same lumen output as standard halogen which in theory would allow our cars to have some sort of functionality while upgrading our high/fog lamps to LED.

https://acurazine.com/forums/4g-tl-2009-2014-123/hl22-1200-lumen-v-leds-883363/

HL22-1200 V-LED
24W LED Digital Plasma - JLC

Has anyone attempted to install either of these products into a 3rd gen and will it fit due to large heatsink?

Appears after reading the thread above the JLC product produces slightly more light due to it's 360 LED surface.

If you want a real upgrade get some HIR1 or HIR2. They output 2500 and 1875 lumens respectively.

Why would you want such a bright DRL? Even the VLEDs 10 LED DRL bulb is plenty bright. This 22watt chip will just be a waste of energy and money. And why the heck did they use a samsung chip..

Also worth mentioning that it is a single chip facing one direction. We do have reflectors but the output is going to be odd with a single output LED vs many LEDs. I'd take 5 or 6 XM-Ls over this one samsung chip anyday.

Well on the 04-06's the DRL's are also the foglights.

Agree, I still want to maintain functionality of my fogs. Forgot to mention I have 2006. For this reason I need decent light output.

I would get JLC ones over the VLEDS; they fill the reflector way better.

This is the harness that's needed:

Option R3

No DRL light on dash, and FULL power.

Yea I have that harness. Got it free from the ijdmtoy owner because he saw my car outside their shop and wanted to test fit it as they had just released the newest version.

Correct...because my car is 2006 I've purchased a drl module that powers the fogs at full 12v. So I should be able to avoid the rely. Thanks all for your input.

honestly its pretty easy to make your own relay harness. its a simple 12v automotive relay available anywhere with wires going to the right places

The JLC is much brighter than the VLEDs product because it outputs in 360 degrees and has a higher lumen output so I would recommend that. A word of caution though, it has a huge heatsink, I'm not sure if there is enough space on the 3G TL, it doesn't fit the 4G TL.

True, that is a huge heatsink. Has anyone in the forum installed either of the two? Rather than take the gamble I'd prefer to go with what is known to work.

Maybe they can tell us the specs of the heat sink size, and we can measure if we have enough space?

Save yourself $40 and just get the $59.99 version.

I have the 6 LED 725 Lumen version and they are plenty bright during the day.

Check out my thread with pictures. If you scroll down you'll see even more

It appears these are definitely the way to go. I see they also have a 10 LED Cree headlight. Do you happen to know the wattage on the 6 and 10 LED headlight? Unless I’ve overlooked, I don’t see it on the website. Thanks!

It says

The XB has ten 5 watt high power CREE R5 chips, the result is absolutely amazing.
10 LEDs x 5w = 50 watts for the 850 Lumen version
6 LEDs x 5w = 30 watts for the 725 Lumen version

I don't know but that doesn't sound right at all.. How is it that the Samsung chip LED only contains 1 LED chip and is 22 watts but produces 1,200 Lumens?

^^No, I use my low beams at night. DRLs aren't meant to be used at night.
It could also get you a ticket.

DRLs are called DAYTIME Running Lights for a reason. They are meant to be used so that other drivers can see your vehicle during the day.

DAYTIME running lights turn off when you turn your headlights on because your headlights are supposed to be the only source of road illumination which makes the DRL useless so they turn off.

Also your daytime running lights are in a reflector housing. They shoot light in all directions and are not aimed with a cut off like your headlights are. If you drive with your DRLs on at night, the light output will scatter and glare everywhere in every direction which can blind other drivers..

Your headlight bulbs put out 3,000+ Lumens. The higher the lumens, the more light output. Your iJDMtoy xenon white LEDs probably only put out 250 Lumens MAX. Probably more in the 150-200 Lumen range.

I have the new 6 LED DRL bulbs released from VLEDS.com. They are rated at 725 Lumens and you still can't see worth shit trying to use them as night time driving lights.

Would 68 smd led, 12V for our foglights need a relay harness or be too much?
