Question High-pitched whine

I've done a search and read the 3G Garage articles, and I don't see any mention of a high-pitched whine while accelerating from a stop in the TL.

It's like an electrical whine, almost like radio interference from the ignition, but it happens even when the audio is off. And it's not loud, so most of you probably haven't even heard it. But I did notice when I got another TL as a loaner awhile back that it had the same sound.

I'm not too worried about it, to be honest, since I've put 5,000 miles on the car (including a 3,000+ mile road trip) and it doesn't appear to be concerned about. I'm just curious.

So does anyone else hear this whine?

I am also getting that Mike. I think it might be the stereo. Sounds like a ground issue when a stereo isn't grounded right so it gets alternator feedback. Had it on a few cars of mine when I had a aftermarket stereo in it. Not sure why it does it though on a factory car.

Well, at first I thought it was alternator whine, since new car batteries need to get a good full charge, but it still makes the same sound.

In any case it's not a problem, and when I have the sound system going I don't hear it. Just wondered if you guys hear the same thing.

I experienced kindof a constant whine, but it went away when I stopped reading this forum so much.

no, it's normal. when your car is on step outside and you'll always hear it, i think it comes out of the stock exhaust...not sure, but it's always louder if you're walking around the back of the car.

Bought my 04 TL about 5 months ago. Thought that I had a cool sounding whine too until it got really loud. On a cold start, it would wail, but quiet down to the normal whine after a few minutes. Turns out it was a bad power steering pump.

Just replaced under warrenty. Now the only whine is from jealous on-lookers!
