HID = annoyed oncoming drivers

It seems like whenever I drive around my local streets at night, some oncoming moron is flashing high beams at me because s/he thinks my HID headlights (set at low beam) are my brights. HID-equipped cars are not that unusual around here, but even so, I get an eyeful. Not something you need at night.

I've taken to dropping my brights a little "late", to make it clear to the oncoming driver that these are my low beams while still not blinding him/her at close range.

Anyone else have this problem?

Not me. Are your headlights properly aimed?

What year is your TL? If its 04-06, a lot of people have their fogs turned on and a lot of oncoming drivers mistake those for high beams, since your entire headlight is lit up

It's an '07.

DH has had a similar problem with his Nissan Murano, so maybe it's HID envy?

^^ Probably not, HID are not really ultra luxury elite class. And many many cars have them nowadays. I never get that problem, ever. Maybe your lights are just extra bright for some reason?

some people thinks the blue/purple flicker is as if you're high beaming them. these are the same people who claims to be abducted by aliens too. they just have issues.

Happens to me too, I get high-beamed when my lows are on. That's when I show them what my high-beams truly look like.

+1, it gets worse with the clear lens such as the ZKW I drive half an hour in the morning and my lows are aimed pretty high yet I have never been hi beamed by on coming traffic

Yeah, I feel you... That's why I drive with my HID Fogs, parking lights, and Angel eyes. My low beams are never on, unless I'm on the freeway (my safety>others).

Like others have said i would first check the alignment of your lights to ensure thats not the problem.

Its interesting because i do mostly night driving, around town its easy to pick out who has projector lights and who doesn't. i think the people flashing you could be doing so because our lights don't have a dull yellow glow like the majority of cars on the road.

3 times i've noticed the blue hue and 3 times its been a TL haha. Also like others have said whenever the road is uneven the lights go everywhere, maybe thats it.

I picked up a new 08 last weekend and I have the same problem as you, Cat. It's especially bad around where I live since I'm constantly driving up and down hills, hitting drivers right in the eyes. I wish there was a "low" low beam setting.

it happened to me when the 3rd gen first came out. I was getting lights flicking at me everywhere. But now a days a lot of cars come equip with HID, so people should be getting used to them..

i also noticed that the 04-05 lights are brighter and more purple compared to the 06-08? the 06-08 is more of a white tint to it and not as bright. correct me if im wrong

I get flashed sometimes for having my fogs on in my 04. They must think its a halogen high beam light. So I flash them back and they realize pretty quickly lol

their reaction (suddenly slows down or even slightly moves off-line) is always hilarious.

It seems to be more of an issue on terrain that is not level, I get flashed more when the front of my car is up, or when coming over the crest of a hill and there is a car coming up the hill on the opposite side.

My car's low beams are nice and bright, but I don't remember getting flashed since getting the TL in '05. I'm in Los Angeles County (live on the West Side) and rarely drive on streets that have undulating hills.

I love the bi-xenon of 3g. Giving them a flash back really give them those squinty eyed deer in the headlight look. I wish motorcycle have bi-xenon, would save me the effort of lifting my front up to show them eye level hid.

04-05 had a different projector. The type change either to or from ECE where it was a straight cut-off rather than a straight line. Either way, my lights have gotten me pulled over since it looked like I was high-beaming the cops to often...

yea so I havent really wanted to use my fogs at all because of that, the new mustangs are like that too. I think ford is secretly copying acura.

the 04 TL's with NAVI have voice command (they just didn't brag about it) and now ford has their SYNC crap like it's new.

That's cuz you're on the west side, where every 3rd car has HID. Go a lil further west and it's the land of HID where it's almost rare to see regular old-fashion halogen anymore.

What is the most annoying is people that switch there lights while driving, blue to halogen to redish, its so annoying and Im pretty sure it is illegal. Then there are straight rude people that tailgate you then beam you, while you are trying to merge in a busy as highway like 495 in virginia/dc/md area, its very dangerous. I guess thats what ya get when you go outside in this sick world we live in. OH well...

Please, tell me you retroed a projector in there. Reflector will spray the light above the cutoff badly. :shakehead It is a must.

Acura could have installed an auto leveler in there, like BMWx5. Either way, I get flashed while driving X5 as well. Oh well.
