Help With Catalytic Converters
Hello Guys,
I have an 07 TL Type S 3.5 6sp in the shop showing codes that state we need to replace Bank 1 and Bank 2 Cats, Bank 1 is cherry red. They are going to run a Borescope into Bank 2, but I want to have the parts on standby just in case we need to do more. Wondering if anyone has used Evan Fischer and or is Denso o2 sensors are OE compatible. Looking at these as a parts list: x2 Denso 234-5010 Air Fuel Ratio Sensor x2 Denso 234-4351 Oxygen Sensor (Air and Fuel Ratio Sensor) x1 Evan Fischer REPA960302 Silver Catalytic Converter x1 Evan Fischer REPA960301 Catalytic Converter for Acura 03-09 MDX/04-08 TL03-07 AccordFront https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/acurazi...f2987554c8.png Does anyone know if these are direct fit or if you recommended something else, trying to find the balance of quality and price if there is such a thing. Staying away from OEM dealers due to the "we are not fair" price. Thanks for all your help and recommendations and have a great day. |
Never had to replace either, but for O2 sensors, I've always read that it's a crap shoot if you use other than OEM....

Denso is OEM for O2 so you're good, just DON'T USE BOSCH.
Can't help you on the Cat's though, sorry.. but bright red means it's clogged and you should definitely replace it :tomato: You'll likely notice increased MPG after Cat/o2 are replaced too so there's that ! |

How many miles on the car, just curious? Aftermarket HFPC cats could be cheaper than OEM. |

^yeah, not that many miles for the year. I’ve never heard of pacesetters. But here is a link to the HFPC that other members here have bought, from our vendor here on Azine. https://www.rv6-p.com/v3hfpc-225.html |

Well after looking long and hard we are going to try a company called Cateran Inc. Seemly a Premium Catalytic Converter Manufacturer.
I wanted Eastern Catalytic, formerly AP Exhaust, but the return policy is hard on RockAuto, not many offer anything better either. I talked to the owner of the company Cateran, which is made in Canada. Amazing he takes calls personally, very rare today. So check them out, maybe a great fit. They are very proud of there OEM like build and come with a lifetime warranty from the provider I'm buying from. The company offers 5y/50k still better than OEM. Plus they use stainless steel gaskets included, stating a better seal then pressed gaskets over time. Sadly Cat 3's end cat does not have many at all that are like OEM direct fit bolt ons, so I'm going with the OE Bolt on from Magnaflow for that unit. Since its not monitored with sensors and such and I found a really good fee for that unit shipped. Hope this post helps others in their search if they need cats, that rack up to over $2k OEM. I will post back with my thoughts after it's all buttoned up. Thanks again guys for the help... |
Hello again guys, we have the car back now after all this work and I can say without a doubt it's like the car is new. In fact it never had so much instant power from all gears.
No hesitation what so ever, we now decided to keep the car as long as we can. Almost traded it for a SUV, that would have a been a huge mistake. Thanks for all that gave advise and hopefully my research will help others save a ton of money without cutting any quality. |
