Help with Air filter replacement

I need help from those of you who have replaced the air filter.

I just got back in my apartment after trying to replace the air filter.

I have located the 4 screws that hold the housing down and have unscrewed them.

The housing cover now lifts off the bottom but I can't seem to get it off far enough to get the filter out. I see that the battery cable goes from the battery to the fuse box and has an attachment point to the air filter housing. I think that is keeping me from lifting the top of the housing off.

Did you guys have to cut the plastic tie that is holding this in place? I'm sure there must be a way to do it without cutting this.

Here is an image of where the plastic tie is.

There are two clips holding the cable to the box. Pull up on the clips (one of mine was tight and I stuck a flathead screwdriver under it). When both clips are loose, you will be able to get the cover off without separating the cover from the tube to the engine.

Thanks for the response Ron.

Are you sure we are talking about the same cable Ron?

I'm not trying to remove the whole housing. Just the top part so that I can change out the filter. Unless I have to remove the whole thing to replace the filter?

I maybe incorrect. I'm gonna run out right now to give it a try.

The cable has two clips that plug into the top part (cover) of the housing. This is what prevents you from pulling the cover up at the end nearest you so you can get the air filter out.
When you remove the clips and push the cable away from the cover a little bit, it will come up.
The cable is stiff and does not allow any movement of the cover until it is unclipped.

Did this myself last week when I did my oil change and decided it was time to check the air filter, which at 12,500 was still very clean.

Well I ended up breaking one of the clips and the other came out clean.

I was able to get the cover out of the way and replace the filter.

Thanks again Ron!

I hope the one clip that I broke is not really that necessary.

You can always run a cable tie strap, or a baggie tie strap, through the hole and around the cable, if you want.
