HELP!…May be forced to sell my new TL…. How is the resale market?

After 2 years of comparing, researching and testing cars, I found a car that is by far the best car I have ever owned –the 04 TL. Now, I discover, that my wife has a knee problem and cannot drive my car. Since I often need to drive her SUV, she has to be able to use the TL. How big a hit will I take if I sell it?
I ordered mine early, but was one of the lucky ones, with no tire problems (HPT), falling headliner, rattles etc. The only problem I have is the memory seats and they should be fixed soon. On EBAY, Automatics are going for around $31K, but I have a 6MT/NAVI. Normally you take a bath on a nearly new car, but could an Anthracite/Quartz w/low miles be rare enough to command a better price. Help!

My solution to a similar problem a few years ago was to purchase a used car with an automatic so I could keep my 6-speed Legend coupe. It might even cost less than trading your 6MT.

I had a heart problem that was getting worse and sometimes did not feel well enough to drive home when my wife and I were out on day trips in my 95 Legend coupe. My wife can’t (read won’t) drive a manual transmission. I had heart surgery in 02 and am now much better, but my wife loves the RL and doesn’t want to give it up. It makes a great third car and is especially nice for traveling.

Good Idea. I would only give up my 6MT if I could get a top price, otherwise, we would just have to work it so my wife doesn't have to drive it - or - like you suggested -buy a "basic" automatic for her when I have the SUV.
Several years ago when my wife played tennis, she had knee problems and had to sell her stick shift Saab. I thought that she was over this, but the other day came up lame and in pain. The only thing she had done was to drive my TL in traffic. The 6MT is easy to clutch, but doing it over and over must aggrevate the knee problem.

Someone might trade

See if anyone on the site wants to trade 'even up'. I bet there's at least one person out there with an AT who'll trade with you.

I've seen several people on this forum who wish they had gotten the 6MT if only for the Brembo brakes....ask around.....maybe someone might trade as ed suggested......it might work for you.
