hello... thinking about a tl type s
Hello all.
I am in the market for a sporty 4 door sedan (has to be manual)
I have looked around and it seems like that I am going to be buying a 3rd generation tl type s. I like the design of the 3rd generation better than the new ones out now.
My only question is are there any major issues that I should deal with or is it still the good acura/honda reliability I can trust ( had a acura cl type s )
(trading in my porsche cayman
because of future wife
and starting new business
)
Thank you for your responses and hope to join the community soon.
**looking for a black on black tl type s..
Cliff notes for the slow or tired
want 3rd gen. tl type s
want to know if any problems.
thanks..

IIRC, the 6 spd type-s should be pretty reliable. I believe they fixed the transmission problems that occured on the 04/05 6 spd models. It's still got that legendary honda reliability, so there should be few issues.

Go for it! It's an awesome car, very good reliability, you'll love the 6-speed, no known problems besides transmission on older models. A new TL-S 6-spd might be hard to find though

I highly reccommend a 2007 or 2008 TL Type-S MANUAL ONLY. Make sure you want NBP, sure its awesome when its clean(HARDLY NEVER) plus a pain to wash, etc. The car I just tradded in was NBP, YUK!!! My NEW/USED 2006 Certified TL Nav Manual Mint with 28.5k miles is WDP. I FRIKEN LOVE IT. WHITE IS A BREEZE. And its SO BEAUTIFUL. The contrast between a great set of wheels with PROPERLY dressed tires, Tint, etc is just AWESOME.
Good luck and REALLY consider WDP. But MAKE SURE you get a MANUAL!!! Just my BIG 2 CENTS. J.D.

2Slow..if you can find a Type S, grab it. I'm sure they are difficult to find now. Take an automatic or the manual transmission and enjoy!

3rd gear fixed in 08 tl-s?
I just bought a new 08 tl-s a week ago and I have to say I'm having a blast with it. It's an amazing ride is a lot of fun to drive.
A question I have for some of the pros here, I have heard about the infamous 3rd gear issue in the 6spd MT's. Is it confirmed to be fixed in all 07-08 tl-s? Because I also notice when shifting into 3rd quickly if I'm not careful 3rd gear will pop out and I'll end up reving high in neutral. I'm planning on switching the transmission fluid this weekend to see if it will help. Any input or suggestions would be appreciated.

So would it be dangerous or bad for the car for me to have the dealership fix my 3rd gear syncros for me? How long would it take?
Does the GM syncromesh fluid result in smoother shifting overall? I was planning on getting the Redline transmission fluid for performance. If the 3rd gear fix is free, I might consider doing it.
My car currently has about 650 miles on it, would it be bad for the car to have its transmission rebuilt so soon?

thank you all for the good insight. Yes I am looking for the type s. If not then I guess i will have to do with a regualar tl 6 speed. Either way I will begin modding as soon as I get the car, but the future wife will have to be kept in the dark as she does not care much for cars.
Anyway thanks again and will post pictures as soon as i get the car.

The 3rd gear TSB is free. I wouldn't call it "dangerous", but it's like this: If you got injured, and all you needed was rest to heal, that would be a better option than surgery, because surgery is always a last resort. Even though that's a bad example, I know, the same applies. After I changed mine out, I have NEVER had my 3rd gear pop out, and the shifts are noticeably smoother. The GM fluid is much, much, much better than the Acura fluid, even though Acura has reformulated it.
