Has anyone used one of these oil quick drain valves?

Here's a link with success from those in the 2g tl forums. Just thought it would save some time and mess of having to dig the plug out form my oil pan. https://acurazine.com/forums/showthr...il+drain+valve

It seems like a quick release valve that is spring loaded and latched so no wrenches, unbolting or digging in the oil pan for your bolt.

I had a Fumoto valve on my STi and loved it. I had it for about 2 years and it worked flawlessly. I've been meaning to order one for my TL also. Nothing beats a mess-less oil change.

I've been using them for about 11 years now and never had a problem with any of them.

I used one on my TL-S and I currently use them on my 350Z and CR-V. No stripping the threads or bolt and it's less mess. It does take a little longer to drain though.

This is the one I use:

Scroll down the page. It's a nice gold color too. Bought mine at O'Reilly's Auto Parts.

I noticed someone saying that the smaller diameter spout is not ideal because it won't let larger particles flow out of the oil pan. Is this a legit concern? or just someone being paranoid about having marble sized pieces of crap floating around in their oil?

Might have to throw this on the ol' birthday list anyways haha.

^I think if one has particles that large he/she has other things to worry about than it not coming out of their oil pan.

I think it's fine, since a lot of BMW owners use pumps through the dip stick tube to suck out oil.

Wow this is really cool. I wasn't aware that these were out there for our cars. I'm going to get one, it will take the trouble of getting the drain plug out everytimg I change my oil!

I just bought one and bought the adapter as well. Not sure if I'll need it but just didn't want the hassle of waiting if I do need it.

Anyhow know what size tubing for the nipple?

I would not take the risk, its not like you gotta change your oil once a month... and besides that you still gotta get messy with the oil filter so whats the big deal.

I don't want to put a negative spin on these valves, but according to some o the ratings on amazon.com (from people who have these), they have some tendency to leak. I'd like to get one myself, but I have some concerns. These negative reviews are specific to the Dorman valve.

oh right, i had the E46 owners in mind when making that statement.

Several of of the guys on E46Fanatics use pumps. That way one doesnt even need to break out the jack stands.

Btw for those getting the fumoto valve, here is a note at the top of the page for V6 models (Acura/Honda):
('96-on) All models w/V6 engine & ('96-'98) TL w/5cyl. engine require an adapter,ADL106 to install the valve.

I had the EZ drain on my 08 TL-S and currently have then on my CR-V and 350Z with no leak issues.

I had a Fumoto valve on my wife's Honda Pilot and my '02 TL-S. They drained too slow for me, hated them and took them off after one oil change.

I've thought about using one but there's something about the security of a bolt screwing into a pan vs a valve and tube. I know the odds of the valve failing or even leaking are very small but I change the oil twice a year so it's not worth the added convenience for me.

I feel the same. But I change my oil once every 2 months and I don't have a garage (I just do it in the parking lot). It's just too much trouble to save the cardboard/plastic from bottled water cases, bring down the jack/stands, etc... Hopefully with the nipple I can just funnel it into a bottle and call it a 15 minute job.

Glad that the oil can be reached w/o jacking the car up. I hate the new Corollas. They use the stupid cartridge and requires an exact 65mm/14-flute filter wrench to open. You CANNOT find a 65mm anywhere, have to order it online. You have to get under it for the Corolla.

nice it looks like the nozzle/nipple is removable too (couldnt decide between the regular or the nipple-ed one). Argh. I think i'll buy one.

Does it come with crush washers? I have extras but i'm curious.

Yes it does come with the crush washers. The site also indicates that the nipple end one is not recommended for lower cars. That's not a problem with our cars because when this thing gets mounted it will be parallel to the floor beneath. Basically it will come out straight and and not pointed towards the ground at an angle

"digging in the oil pan" ???

I have no problem removing the plug with minimal mess. You just have to be ready for the oil, and quickly pull the plug away from where the oil will stream out. Its not messy at all.

I also punch holes in the filter to drain it, so its less messy.

saw in a youtube vid it needs 3/8" tubing. it was on a ford though i dont know if the size is different.

How tight should you torque the valve to the adapter? I'm thinking put the adapter to the oil pan first and tighten to spec so thats not a problem.

Cant get a torque wrench on the valve though. I'll prob hold the adapter with a box wrench and tighten the valve with another.

Pics of the opening compared to the regular drain plug. It's about half.

Now I wonder if my adapter is long enough...... DOH!

Weight and quality feels good, pretty solid. The valve is also solid. Not very easy to hit something and have it go open. I am going to try to angle the valve upward (use washers to adjust rotation).
