Has anyone painted their 5AT TL Calipers

If so, what brand did you use? I have seen offerings from G2 and VHT. Do the aersol ones adhere and last?

The calipers look a little rough so how did they turn out?

Any opinions on which color looks best with Anthracite besides black?

Thanks for the thread. Has anyone used the brush on G2 stuff? It seems kind of pricey.

I have the 6MT, but used the VMT black spray on the rears. They were very clean, but I just sprayed some fantastic on them to take the surface dust off and sprayed. Came out very nice.

I think red looks best on Anthracite,
that will be my color...
The Acura letters can be masked with tape or playdoe (if letters are recessed)

Red on Anthracite? Seems like an odd combo. Please post some pics when you finish

I just got done looking at the porsche website and it seems like red looks great with their gray color that is close to anthracite. I went out an put some red electrical tap on the calipers to see how they would look and I think red is the color. If I ever get a digital camera, I will post pics when I'm done...or I'll just borrow one from work.

Thanks Nox,

I think the red looks SWEEET and it compliments the side markers and rear lamps on the TL.

When you said this, the first car I imagine is Porsche, as your pic.

It's great combo.

I'll suggest make your red darker, it could be better.

Please posts pics when you're done. I like it on the porsche, but I just not a fan of it on the TL. I'm very interested in seeing it after its done though.

-I'm not trying to flame or anything, I just don't don't agree with the color combo.

Nothing wrong with that...

I'm a 40+ year old guy and would like to have mine powder coated one of these days.. Probably gloss black do to having WDP. Nothing like having nice "components" behind rims that allow visibility...

This is a very popular mod on Corvettes. I have painted the calipers on both of my C5 Corvettes. I (and several friends) have just used Rustoleum that you can buy at Home Depot. If you want red, Sunrise red is the way to go.

Just clean with some denatured alcohol. I just brush it on. If you have raised letters, you can block sand the letters down to a shiny silver, or paint the raised part. On my Yellow Corvette, I painted the calipers black and the raised "CORVETTE" letters yellow to match my car.

JJCS,

That looks very nice. So have you had any chipping or flaking problems with the Rustoleum? Did you use a high temp version or just the regular stuff and did you indeed say you brushed it on????

regular temp pait will work just fine on the calipers. there is no need to use high temp paint. the key is to just make sure you CLEAN them reallly good. use some DAWN, and buy a degreaser, found at most hardware stores (home depot, lowes.ect..)

None. No problems. With about 11,000 miles on this car (since painted), the paint still looks brand new. This is not hi-temp, just the garden variety stuff. This is not the big deal a lot of people think it might be. Clean with denatured alcohol, one coat of paint. That's it. And this car has seen plenty of high speed braking, and an occassional autocross.

anyone ever use Plasti-kote caliper paint? That's what I found at Pep-boys. I'd like to paint mine black to match the front, but I want to make sure I don't screw it up with sh*tty paint.

Thanks

Dude,

You are the shiznit. I bought the small can of Rustoleum for $3 and some change at Home Depot this past weekend. I chickened out on the sunrise read and wound up with the gloss black.

JJSC5, it worked every bit as good as you said it would and better. I used a Dremel tool to get rid of the bumpy texture on the surfaces I thought would really show up the gloss black and then I cleaned the caliper with de-natured alcohol real well. I just brushed it on Friday night and the paint leveled out awesome and was glossier than sh$%. The wheel went back on without even coming close to the wet caliper so I was able to do them all in about an hour and a half. I didn't drive the car until Sunday morning and tried to avoid heating the brakes too much.

Being the perfectionist I am, I pull the wheel again Sunday afternoon and hit them with a little 300 grit sandpaper and put one more light coat on and DANG, they look sweet. You can totally see them glossin through when the car is parked. I would love to see what they look like while its rolling on the freeway. Anyone who has thought of doing this it was a piece of cake and the brush on Rustoleum worked like a charm, although I'm not sure how they would looke if you didn't clean up the surface bumps. When I get into the next century and buy a digital camera, I will post picks of these and my 4th coat of Zaino.
