Harsh ride quality

I know the TL’s suspension is made to be more stiff, but I think mine is too stiff. I am able to feel every single imperfection on the road and it translates into a thump and bumpy ride that shakes me.

I feel like there are some shocks or suspension component that has been broken in the car’s past 16 year life.

any sort of crack or bump, is a big “thump-thump” and I feel every one.

for reference, mom’s 16’ CX5, GFs 20 civic don’t pick up anything like it, granted they are all a decade newer. I didn’t even know 90% of those imperfections even existed until I drove on those roads with the TL. I won’t even mention dads ‘13 ES300h (who owned the TL prior), which has clouds for suspension.

is this just something to live with given the age and design, or can I alter it to be more comfy and numb?

Check for worn or broken parts.

Bushings and tires harden up and wear over time. Shocks wear out over time. etc.

When my car rode like this, it turned out to be bad shocks. I think the harsh ride was due to the shock hitting the bump stops.

That, and if the compression damping is gone...you get a lot of banging and reverberation when the suspension hits a bump and all the unsprung weight (wheels, shocks, axles, control arms, spindles, brakes) rapidly travel upward.

What tires are you running? Bushings could be shot.

just put on winter tires. My all seasons were Pilot Sport A/S. 235/45R17. About 235/220 kpa front/rear

the winters are 225/55(maybe 60)/R17s. Increased ride height a bit so definitely more sidewall. The ride is significantly better, so it’s not just my suspension, but tires. If summers were a ride quality of D, these are maybe a B-. Before, I was aware of every imperfection. Now not so much, unless I’m thinking about it and totally fine with these. Pressure at 245 for all.

My first car for 3 months, so not much experience/knowledge. Should I swing for a bigger sidewall thickness?

Those Pilot AS look ancient.

Rubber hardens up over time.

Did you read any of the posts above?

when it rains my suspension gets quiet.. Otherwise, lots of thumps. These suspensions have TONS of Bushings and joints everywhere. 5 link suspension on each side of the rear.. That is 2 bushings per connection, 10 bushings per side, for a total of 20 bushings and joints in the rear.. maybe more No wonder thumps.. and clunks haha
its a POS

as for the front, you may have a transmission mount and/or engine mount bad.. they can make clunking noises too... These TL's are rattle traps when they age.
