Grrr...<400 Miles, Check Engine Light Om
At 395 miles my check engine light just went on.
According to the manual, this indicates that something is screwy with the emissions equipment.
It suggests checking the gas cap (I haven't even filled the tank for the first time yet!) because it may be loose. Also says that if that's the problem, it will take 3 days of normal driving for the light to go off. Nice.
So I went and filled the tank and I guess we'll see what happens. But I was going to take it on vacation to Maine tomorrow, but I guess not now. Grrr....
Any one else have this problem?

5AT?? with early VINs (before 12xxx or 14xxx) should do the firmware/software update. Besides this update, some cars with all the range of VINs have to replace coil pack, crankshaft sensor, or contolling valves, etc. in order to completely fix this MIL ON issue.
As caball88 asked, what kind of speed, RPM, or situation did you have while this light was ON?

I pulled the car out of the garage and into the driveway this morning so I could get my mower out.
Then this afternoon when I went to put the car back in the garage I noticed it was on.
So no, I was driving it hard in the 17 feet from my garage to driveway ;-)
Do you guys think I should not drive it until I can get the dealer to look at it?

Stewie,
Your situation seemed totally different to others. Most of us had this ON while RPM ran high in the freeway.
If it's still ON when you crank your car, it's necessary for your dealer to check. (If it's OFF, you may drive out for a while... and see if it's on again, especially while your RPM is going over 4k+...)
Sorry to hear this.

By the way, my VIN is 48XXX.
I'm not going to take it to Maine, so it will be sitting in my garage for a couple days.
Luckily according to the manual its "just" an emissions problem rather than a real engine problem.
The only place I have taken it is the gas station & back (maybe 5 miles, and I babied it).
I'll probably drive it a bit tonight see if the light goes off.
If I have to bring this thing to the dealer next week and I get a JD Power survey I'm gonna have to ding them on the IQS :-(

I know your car is new to you, but I think you're being a little too cautious. Chances are the dealer filled it with the wrong grade of gasoline and didn't put the gas cap on properly. If the problem is not related to that, then it is likely it is something lame like a valve related to the emissions system is/was stuck open. I recommend driving the car for a few days and seeing if the light does or does nto go away. Whether or not taking it to Maine is a good idea is a toss up depending on how many miles you would be putting on the car.
Anyway, best of luck finding a resolution!

Well, I took it out to dinner tonight (total of 50 miles).
The light went off after the first few miles and stayed off the entire time.
I have a feeling it was bad gas and/or the gas cap was loose and I fixed it when I filled the tank.
I guess time will tell.
Thanks for the help.

Time to POWER UP!!
Most new Acura's that have the check engine light come on is because of the gas cap not being tightened correctly. It says to make it click 3 times but its best to make it click a few more times. Your not going to hurt anything by clicking a few extra times. It will prevent that check engine light from coming on when nothing is wrong with your car.
