Greetings
Hello new to the forum, kind of. Joined in January, however have been reading posts for over a year. Recently picked up a 2004 TL base, with 80K miles on it. No accidents, or paint work, purchase price was 7.8k. Its DMM, not the most desirable but the price was right. It is a northeast car so bolts and nuts take some time to break free.
Thus far have replaced brake pads and rotors, calipers front and rear, brake fluid, new springs and shocks. Next up is the transmission fluid 3X3, and while I was at it thought I would just replace 3rd an 4th gear pressure switches. To get to the switches and trans drain plug I removed the lower engine cover, and in doing so I snapped the rear most bolt. So the obvious question is, what to do. Should I drill out and tap or something different? Advise?
After the transmission, I will change out the PS fluid, then an engine oil change, and change all filters engine air and cabin air. In the very near future i will make a visit to Hamiton Honda for a timing belt.
Is there anything else from a maintenance perspective that should be doing?
Thanks
TekeTL

Spark plugs come to mind. I'd Seafoam that puppy as well (before replacing plugs). Could drain/refill coolant if it looks like it needs it. A good coolant flush never hurts.
Yeah, I'd just drill out that stripped nut. I had to do that on one of the nuts on the front where the bumper mounts to the radiator enclosure.
Congrats on the purchase. That's a good price for only 80K. Definitely baby that transmission though. Depending on what batch it was in 2004, it could be a ticking time bomb. Best bet is to treat it very well. Most around here recommend redline ATF. I'm not adept in that stuff since I'm a 6MT guy but Id recommend you do some homework on that.

Ok registered.....thank you
Thank you for the tips...yes plugs, I think I will change them out soon, and the coolant will be addressed in the timing belt change.
Can any one tell me if that the rear bolt that attaches the lower engine cover has a nut on the other side? or is it just threaded into the frame?
Also any tips on the pressure switches. I did read the directions in the "garage"; however do I need to coat the threads with anything or just a new sealing washer and screw in.
Thanks,
TekeTL

Hi, I had two that were leaking, looked like they were coroded on the inside. The other two looked ok (heavy pitting on the outside,) but i just figured I would replace them as well since I was doing pads. Also front pads were worn differently and I had a warped rotor.
Did shoes too. Tried to go after market on those and after i installed them, (it was a sunday and hadnt planned on replacing shoes) I couldnt get the rotors back on....the aftermarket (auto zone) were too thick. Live and learn
Yes, Thank you. Already registered at my acura. Recalls to be done are the PS hose and wiper motor.

Welcome, you got a great deal on your tl! Just a reminder, there are a few recalls for the '04 TL. You can call up your local dealer and see if they have been done by giving them your VIN.

Steven, Thank you for the welcome. I continue to get the car in shape, although scared the crap out of myself last night. Completed the oil change, uneventful....and moved onto the 1st step of the 3X3. Thout i snapped off the fill bolt, ahte that noise it makes. Drained the tranny fluid...3.5 quarts came out, looked okay, not black like motor oil but not red like new either. I don't have a baseline to compare it to other than my MDX; regardless filled it back up and and started the car. Dashboard lit up like christmas tree, oil light went out (normal to see it after oil change) however had the blinking D light, the triangle, and the CEL. Not happy, but then replaced the 3rd and 4th switches, and now all lights are off. So now need to finish the remainder of the 3X3.
Wanted to also thank all the members of the board who post their experiences , very easy to search and find what I am looking for when I have questions. It is a huge resource.....thanks teke
