GPS Antenna

I'm looking for where mine's at. I think somebody said that it was in the "C" Pillar before (whatever that is - I'm clueless).

Has anyone had problems with reduced GPS reception after installing metallized window tiniting?

It should be behind the rear seats under the cover driver side of the subwoofer. One of the cables behind the Navi system should be the antenna, just find it and follow.

You have to remove the rear decklid to find it. Bitium is correct. It's a little black box on the right side of the vehicle. I have Llumar 50% metallic and have no problems.

Forgot to say this.
The "A" Pillars are the front beams holding the roof at the windshield.
The "B" Pillars are the ones between the doors

The "C" Pillars are the ones on the back of the car. The only thing on the C pillar is the rear side airbag.

Thanks, guys! Danm, this forum is useful!

I'm going for 35% tint with Diamond Window Tinting later today.

If anyone has had problems with radio reception / GPS reception after window tinting, I'd sure like to know!

Well, I got the tint installed, and got daring ... I put 50% Diamond Tint full Metallic (Marquis) on the rear window.

No noticable degradation from the already crappy FM reception.

The GPS starts acheiving First Fix about 30 seconds after exiting my garage (roughly similar to before). Still losing the satellite fix when going under an overpass, but getting a near instantaneous fix a second or so later (similar to before). I'd say that for all practical purposes, the Diamond metallic tint didn't hurt my GPS or FM reception significantly.

BTW kona - thanks for the diagram!

With the Satellite radio, like listening to music on the internet, there's a short delay...that's awesome that it reconncects so fast. I know a lot of people who have bought after-market XM and have had many problems with it.

TLHottie - The XM Radio antenna is on the roof of the 04TL, so it won't get affected by the rear window tint.

Otherwise, what you say is true ... I know that other XM radio folks have liked the integrated system offered on the 04TL - for both looks and performance.

Hey, TLHottie - I noticed that you've been a member since '01 ... Did you "upgrade" to the 04TL?

hey GotJ... I did buy an '04 with Navi about 2 weeks ago, but I also kept my '99 for a highway car. I really do love my '04 - but I hate putting miles on it. What a catch 22.

the XM antenna is on the top of the roof and centered because it needs to be placed on top of a metal surface according to XM specs. it uses the car as part of the ground for the antenna to work better. XM satellites are received better if in direct view also.

GotJazz-

What color is your TL? How does it look with the 50% metallic?

Post pics?
