Got a RED LIGHT ticket in Montreal.

I cross a yellow light. While I was on the intersection box, the light turned red.

What is the best way to contest against that.

I got a 148$CAD ticket and 3 points.

Is there an interdiction to cross YELLOW light?

Thanks for your precious help.

Here is what I understand from my family/friends in law enforcement. The cameras (at least in Los Angeles) only take pictures of cars that BEGIN to enter the intersection AFTER the light has turned red. If you enter on a yellow, the cameras will not operate. They will also snap your pic if you perform a right hand turn at more than 25 MPH (on a red).

I'm guessing that it was acutually red before you entered, even though the last thing you saw was yellow.

In any case good luck.

Looks like you did run a red light. My wife doesn't understand this either but when the light turns YELLOW it means "try to stop" BEFORE going through the intersection (Yea, my wife thinks it means GUN IT! as well). When I'm driving and we are still a few hundred feet from the intersection and the light turns yellow, I slow down and stop before it turns red. That's the way it's supposed to work. Does it take a little effort to move my foot form one pedal to the next? Sure, but that the way you are suppose to drive. Sorry to hear your getting a ticket but in order ways, I'm not so sorry. Please try to drive more conscienciously next time. Let this be your $150 lesson (instead of a $35K totaled car lesson at someone else's expense later down the road).

Yes, it that situations it is up to the driver situation to assure its secutiry : I was followed by a large truck in a icy road condition. I could not stop so I decided to pass the yellow.

Yellow means stop it your situation allows it with safety. But in my situation, it is safer to pass.

Thanks for the explination. Safer to run a red light? Ok, maybe if your able to see the cross traffic and you KNOW the truck is not going to be able to stop. Sorry to hear you were placed into a tough decision. Maybe you can get a lawyer to help you plead your case?
