Goodbye 2004 6MT A-SPEC

I am extremely saddened to have to relay that yesterday I was in a 6 car pileup on I95 in Philadelphia. Somehow I escaped with absolutely not 1 scratch on me! I was unfortunately the last in line to get caught up in a huge accident that occurred a few cars ahead of me. I had no where to go and slammed into the vehicle ahead of me. As you can see from the pictures, I was following at a more than safe distance and reacted as quickly as possible. I attribute the minimal amount of damage to my car and me escaping without any injury whatsoever to do the stopping power of those Brembos! I slammed into a brand new Honda Civic that was crushed from the impact it made with the vehicle ahead of it, yet my car looks like nothing even happened. The impact was enough to deploy both the driver and passenger front airbags, so as we all know... it is going to be a total loss at this point. With 186,000 miles and being an 04...its over. Of course, like most of us here, this car couldn't have been in any more perfect condition. I maintained this car meticulously since day 1. Just in the last week, I had done an entire tune up including new coil packs, spark plugs, and valve adjustment. This car was in absolute perfect show condition. I am so mad because of course I am not going to get anything for all the money put into making this car last forever or any of the modifications or rare and expensive parts. I also can't imagine I am going to get more than a couple thousand dollars for it. Everything in this car was in perfect condition from the seats, rear seats, you name it.... everything perfect!!!!!! Wish i had an opportunity for everyone to strip this thing apart and get some of the amazing parts I had. So upset....but I walked away unhurt...amazing. Linking some pictures of a few cars that were involved. The others were parked another half a mile or so up the road.

Going to look at an Infiniti G37S 6MT Coupe today... can't think of any other cars that would make me happy. Need that manual transmission!

Sorry to hear man, but walking away without a scratch is the main thing. Cars can be replaced! Might be worth the buy back and part the thing out to recoup more money.

If I had the time and a place to do it I absolutely would. That is my predicament right now as I live in center City Philadelphia I just don't have the ability to make that happen. Any thoughts on what the value is going to be so I can prepare myself for the ultimate slap in the face?

Sad to see...

Interesting to see how the dash cover worked with the passenger airbag firing. That has always been a curiosity/concern of mine with the various covers.

I don't think any cover will hinder its purpose. You ever see the videos where people put one under a sofa cushion and blow the person off the chair? There is a ton of force behind them.

Well aware the force is there...its a matter of that cover smacking the passenger in the face or the airbag being deflected too much.

I am so sorry, man. I'm an original owner of an '05 Base TL Sport w/ nav in anthracite and, like you, have kept it looking just about as nice as on day one. I respect the time and effort you put into that TL.

Glad that you are ok, however the front damage is not bad but the two airbag deployed is the real killer here. May be someone here should buy and rebuilt the car.

on the other hand, I see that you have the same dash mat as mine. I always wonder how it effect airbag deployment and your picture clearly show no problem.

Some serious luck landed on my side, bought an Infiniti G37 sport 6 speed manual transmission coupe!!!!! was at the Infiniti dealership and this showed up as I was there so lucky. In other news I'm going to be selling the car as I believe somebody would either take on the project or would just want the car for parts. being that everything is immaculate from the engine rest of the exterior and interior I think I should get it back to the community so these parts can make their way to all of you or the car can get fixed. The interior in its entirety is in perfect shape so I believe there is some value. will be looking for a buyer.

I drove a 2010 G37 AT, over all the car feel firmly planted to the ground. However it feels heavy compare to my Type Slow especially at low speed corner.

Car is officially for sale at this time. Not parting out, selling vehicle as is. Too many rare parts along with the insane condition that the exterior and interior are in...cannot allow this to go to insurance company to dispose of. Would like to see this thing get a second life or the community benefit from the parts. Vehicle would need to be towed out of Progressives lot. New dash, airbags, front bumper, and windshield should do it. Such crap that they consider it a total loss with such minimal damage. Rest of car is an easy 10/10.

Glad you are ok OP.

Your TL still has some life to it. Someone will pick it up. Mine was like that Honda from the front and someone bought it off the progressive lot

Thank you. I already have a decent of amount of interest. Looks as if someone is going to purchase it. I am just happy that it will get a second life. I absolutely want to see it out and about and not sitting in some lot being picked apart and rotting away!

jrocka312,

Bummer, big time! Are you the original owner? You might want to have the damage estimated by a body shop, even if it's just for the heck of it. Someone hit me while parked a couple of years ago, and the damage looked a lot worse than your pics. I've got 15 years and 313K miles of my heart and soul into my car, so I know how you feel.

If you do decide to part it out, count me in for the tail lights.

Good luck!

That really sucks. If you can say - how fast were you going at impact? That doesn't seem like a lot of front end damage for the bags to deploy. Although I don't really have any context regarding how much it was pushed in, etc. With my faces of meth TL I think I've probably run into a parking lot pole nearly as hard (given condition of my bumper cover).

Also sucks it is totaled. You'd think with the cracked dash you could just put in new airbags and it would look more or less the same as most of the TLs currently on the road.
