good tint place in San Jose/South Bay Area

there are many, many tint places around me, so, was wondering if anyone had a recommendation, as opposed to me just randomly picking one. I'm new to the area.

the Tint Shop is located in the same spot as the Marlin CarWash place.

I use J&C on Monterey Hwy. Tell Michael sent you. You shoud get if for under $200 if you mention my name. I went with %50, personally I would not recommend going any darker.

Mike,

No scratches or anything nasty at all? Did they install the moleskin? I've been without my baby for a week now while she gets her bumper repainted and the 5 rattles addressed.

MIke (and D4SSWME),
in addition to what Lore asked... what kind of tint do they use? I've been reading in here that ppl recommend FormulaOne/PInnacle ceramint tint for ppl with navis (and I have navi). Do they also offer a warranty?

Mike/D4SSWME:
since you guys are from the area, any problems with the police, in terms of your tint? I was thinking of just 35% all around...

Qali:

35% is pretty darn dark. You may get harrassed if you're pulled over for anything. I think 50% is safe since 70% is what comes normally with the car.

Not to mention your rear window is going to be so dark that it might be hard to see out of at night!

Lore:
hmm... really? I thought 35% was "typical" tint level... I didn't think it was that dark... or do you mean it's pretty darn dark, in terms of the police noticing?

Mike, you got any pics (in the sunlight preferably) with your 50% tint? If 70% is what comes with the car, i'm wondering how big of a difference 50% is.

You may be right about how "normal" it is - but 35% means that 65% of light is blocked. Depending on the color of your car and the interior, this may be dark enough for the cops to bug you about it.

Lore,

I do have some fine scratches, and J&C dosn't have mole skin. I now just keep the rubber seals clean by running a cotton rag around my finger and keeping the rubber clean, no more scratches.

Qali,

I'm anti-dark-tint, that's why I went with %50, it's light, but you wont have any issues with po-po or what I call the "sunglasses" look at night. Moreover, it really depends on the color of your car and the interior, so lighter cars with light interiors can use a darker tint shade over cars that are let's say black with ebony interiors. %35 on a dark car (and even lighter cars) is an instant ticket.
Sorry, I don't have any photos.

Not actually in south bay but ...

I got it done at Rocky Mountain in Livermore further in the east bay. Not in South Bay but they are the best I found from many other forums. I got Llumastar ATR 35% on back and rear shield with cut around the rear brake light and paid $245 for installation which includes $50 for felt installtion so the inside wiper would not scratch tint. The installer had taken 5 cars front tint off against fix it ticket that week so I decided not to get it done in the front. I've had this for almost couple of months now and have not noticed any signal problems with radio or nav. They took the door panel off to install the felt. Job done very professionally.

Here is the address and phone number;

3985 First St
Livermore, CA 94551
(925) 373-2577

All this came with the lifetime warranty. Hope this helps.
