Is this a good deal?
I just found a 2006 White, Non Navi TL.
It has 19,600 miles.
They want $23,999 and im think i could talk them down to 20-21ish since im paying cash.
The kicker is it is certfied.
This is the best deal i have run into in a while, have you guys ever seen any deal similar or am i just not looking hard enough?
Thanks

Im in Texas. Im in Houston actually, I think there are only 2 acura dealerships around here, so the competition is scarce. This car is located at a particular dealership in San Antonio (which is about 2.5 hours away from me).
For some reason they have been selling 06 TL's with less than 24k mi for about $23-26k . Which I think is a pretty decent deal. But this is the first one ive seen that is certified. So I may jump on that.

to me it sounds that car was originally leased based on a low mileage...do you really want to purchase a leased car?
And what exactly are they including in the certified warranty?
I think you can do better, my friend just picked up 2005 TL w/Navi from an NJ auction with like 40K miles, great condition for $15K....anything under 80K is certified (lemon law).

Its Acura Preowned Certified, so apparently it has to goto a 200 point check or something along those lines and has an extended manufacturers warranty on power train and bumper to bumper. Its on the Acura website, I would give you more, but i cant access it at work for some reason.
As far as I know 23,000 is the price to buy it out right.
I would goto an auction, but i cant find any TL at auctions with less then 25k miles.

yeah some of those auctions are really hit or miss....i bought my 05 TL with type S wheels, protection package, all weather floor mats, wheel locks, certification with 32k miles for a little less than that-i might have been able to find a little bit of a better deal, but not too much better, and you pay for what you think it is worth to you. If you think that its worth the price that it is on it, then jump on it! Good luck and happy dealings!

Its tough to find a low mileage TL (under 20k) for that cost. But I'll check it out, call Acura, see how much longer the warranty is, see if it has any recalls, and do a carfax on it. If everything checks out im going to go and try and drive out to see it.

Well, I just found out this one had hail damage.
There is another certified preowned 06 Silver TL non Nav for $25k with 16k mi, that im going to go and check out possibly.
Or hell I may get a brand new 08 TL for $29k. I didnt know they were that low.

There's no simple proof that a car is a good buy. Carfax only shows accidents that are reported. believe me, I think most are not reported. In my town the police won't even show up unless someone is injured or cars need towing.
You can do thousands of $ of wreck damage before a car needs to be towed.
Certified, is a 1 year warranty extension an Acura dealer can add to a used car.
I bought a 95 'certified' Legend coupe once from a dealer, that had a lot of things (fixable) wrong with it. No one had even looked at the car IMO. It's mainly a marketing ploy, or at least was then by that dealer.

I saw the TL your looking at, it's at Gunn. I thought 23K was low, now we know why. I also saw the 06 silver one for $26 with 16K.
I've bought 3 cars from them, 2 used Acura's, and my new TSX. Great dealer. I would recommend talking to Brendan who is one of the Internet sales guys.
I worked with him from here in Laredo before I bought my TSX. Straight up guy.
Also, I never had any issues with my 02' RSX CPO, and my 01' TL. Both cars were great!

Lease cars are actually great used cars, because they are typically low mileage, and dealer maintained. T
here is no law that says a car with under 80 miles when sold must be certified. Certification process itself is an insurance policy that is bought by selling dealer, and sold with the car after markup. It is a great way for dealers to make money, since the 200-point inspection is ain't s**t.
If the car costs considerably lower than similar ones then there is a catch. Our friend found out that 06 with low miles for 24K has hail damage. If not, this car would be priced 2-3K more.
Teknoking- your friend got a 23-24K car for 15K at the auction? There must be something wrong with that car, I guarantee. It must be the same auction where my friend from Brooklyn bought a one year old Grand Prix with salvage title and 9K mi for 10 grand- it fell apart after 2 yrs and he ended up trading it for 3500.

buying a car off an auction...do you own a dealership or car rental? lol you going to mark-up the price and resell or rent the car for cash? good luck with your ownership experience
there is no such thing as "must be certified". CPO (certified pre-owned) program is just a simple way for dealers to sell used cars for a better price, and to give consumers a peace of mind. Dealer extended warranty is the same, unless the extended warranty is from the manufacturer. You sound like you found a piece of diamond off the road for locating a CPO vehicle...lol.

Kostyan, you are right, buying at an auction is like buying a cat in the bag.
I bought a 97 maxima and 00 TL from an auction, All ran beautifully for years. So there is luck involved too...In regards to 80K rule, the auction itself certifies that the engine and tranny are in working condition and are fully covered for a full refund thru the auction proprietorship. There is a reason you pay a fee to auction off a car.
The friend that got the car for 15K is a dealer himself, another reason for a low price, plus there are many tricks in this trade that you can do. So even if the car his minor problems, fixing it will still yield a lower than the dealership price (who happend to also purchase cars from auctions, shhhh...secret)
to get a good price in an auction, make sure the car you want goes in the afternoon, or almost at the closing around 3pm... On my maxima I was the only bidder, on my TL it was me and the other guy...less people bidding, less $$$ you'll pay.
Obvisouly, purchasing a car from a dealership gives that piece of mind, but you still don't know what the certified car has been thru. =]
Peace

Here is NY Law:
http://www.oag.state.ny.us/consumer/cars/usedqa.html
ARE CARS PURCHASED AT AUTO AUCTIONS COVERED?
Yes. If you buy a used car at a retail auto auction, the auction company must be a used car dealer registered with the Department of Motor Vehicles and it must provide you with your lemon law rights.
In NJ, same law, but I believe it is 80K miles
Know the laws, or you will get owned every time. This is why lawyers do so well!

That's why you never tip your hand when it comes to HOW you will pay for it.
Always try to get the lowest price (and let them assume you're going to finance it) and when you have their absolute lowest price...BAMMM....hit them with the news that it will be a cash deal.

There are two kinds of auctions: auctions that sell to general public, and only to registered dealers. In State of MD, for instance, it is unlawful for a vehicle that is sold by a registered dealer to general population, be sold without having passed State Inspection within last 90 days.
Public auctions usually sell shiety beat up rides, dealer auctions are where the good cars are. I had been at numerous auctions myself, and bought cars there as well, and on those auctions, if the car is under certain mileage (80k or so), has no frame damage, and under certain year, it is sold under "green light", means you can return it for a full refund if powertrain fails within 72 hours. Thats the rules I know.
I do not exclude that your friend have gotten a killer deal, but again, you dont get an 05 TL unless it had been in major collision, or has been repaired, and is sold with salvage title. So when you tell other people on here of the deal like that, please tell them also what is wrong with car. You know, I saw an 06 TL that is total loss for 10 grand, but the car is f**ed up beyond recognition.

Kostyan, I appreciate that you always comeback with a positive response, we are not here to claim you are right and I'm wrong, we here to discuss the information available to us so we can help EACH OTHER arrive to a proper decision. Each of us has a unique knowledge, combine it all, and we can pretty much conclude with a best deal possible for every situation....that's why I love this forum.

Also just out of curiosity does anyone know what the ball park on fixing hail damage is?
Lastly, is there every a point in the year when Acura offers 0.0% financing or something real low?
thanks
