Hi all, I've been looking recently at an 07 or an 08 type S with 6MT. I'm fairly new to manual transmission, but I've found that it's a lot more enjoyable than autos.

However, I've heard of that infamous 3rd gear problem and I want to know how common it is. As if I buy one, what are the chances I'll get one with that problem? I know the GM Synchromesh can fix it, but I'd rather not do that if possible.

Also, how are the clutch holding up? Replace them around how many miles?

That third gear thing is somewhat true. There is a thread about the problem on this site. If you search I am sure you will be able to find it. Acura has a TSB and a new 3rd gear they can put in the car if you do get one that has problems.

The problem is easily remedied by replacing the Honda transmission fluid with some GM synchromesh.

First of all, welcome to AZ The 6mt 07/08 TL-S is very rare to find these days. I'd test drive it to see if you feel the 3rd gear problem. If not great, if so, like was mentioned above, easy fix. Good luck with the deal.
