GN vs GT500 Mustang (non TL)

Ran into one in the stock engine GN. We were side by side at a red light on a double left turn lane. My friend hits the methanol purge to make sure it's available right away just in case this guy tries to go for it. As always, the engine stumbled for a second since it was flooded with methanol and then revved up when it cleared up. The guy in the Mustang heard us "rev" on accident so he revved too.

Light goes green, as soon as we were going straight we both hit it. The Mustang sounded good with the supercharger whine. Second gear on street tire is useless but we managed to stay at his door while spinning the tires. The shift to third comes up and the car hooks and puts a solid 3 cars on the Mustang by about 95mph at which point we both shut it down at the same time.

Of course at the next light the guy wouldn't pull completely up to the light or look over. I'm pretty sure he didn't know he just got beat by a 6 cylinder, I think the only reason he bothered racing was our accidental rev on him.

And this is your friend's GN with the stock engine right?

Nice kill on the GT. BTW, how much faster you think your GN is compared to the GN above?

I want a Grand National.

And I want to make it look as much as possible like a Regal you'd see some blue haired lady driving to Bingo. Sleepers are where it's at!

Mad respect for the GNs (and good kill) but the current V8 Stang (the GT500 in particular) is on my very short list of domestic faves!! If I was assured that my wife would not have a conniption, I would even consider getting a loaded up regular GT to replace my 07 AV6.

There's a lady I work with that drives one every day, parks it outside because the covered parking would be too far to walk, and the inside looks like an ashtray. Really sad to do that to such a special car.

Stock from the throttlebody down. After installing some new software, we realized the boost guage is 2lbs off so instead of 28psi, it's been running 30psi this whole time.

I've raced this car before with mine at 17psi (91 octane) and this one at 26psi it's a good race. With both at high boost it's not close.

That's part of the problem with these cars. We took my dad's lightly modded daily driver T-type to the track in daily driver trim (pump gas and street tire). People would see the K&N filter and think it ran 10s then when it ran a few 12.60s they were disappointed.

They still give the V8 guys fits though. That's the main reason I like the car so much.

That's a nice car, just not my style. I like the low key approach. You know, the whole "carry a big stick" saying. A ride in each car may change your mind though.

Honestly, I'm more partial to the 89 Turbo TA. Sidenote: I regularly see this older couple (easily in their 60s) at Etown racing both their Turbo TA (him) and GN (her). IIRC, both are running somewhere around mid-12s.

I'm thinking he know you were a 6-cyl and that's why he didn't want to face you looking at him If he didn't he shouldn't own a GT500.

Oh what fun

That's one thing I don't understand. All of these racing is all game and fun, some people take it too seriously.

My cousin had a Regal T-Type that ran high tens. He wanted to sell it to me for 10k (this was a few years back) but I turned him down. It was an ugly brownish color and if it didn't have those huge tires out back and the guages in the pillar it would have been the ultimate sleeper.
Those cars are absolute beasts, I never drove anything nearly as fast. I had a 1997 1le formula with mods and a 150 hit and it wasn't nearly as quick.
