Gasoline and Paint

Does gasoline eat away at the paint? Someone told me that if you drip a little gas on the paint after fueling, you really need to scrub it off immediately. Any truth to this?

this has happend to me. When it did happen I wouldn't scrub but would wipe it off with a wet paper towel at the station. Later as soon as I got home home would wash the area off. if anything it'll remove some of the wax but you shouldn't have to worry as long as you clean it as soon as you can.

You are right. The clearcoat and paint is resistant to gasoline as I have accidentally dripped it below the filler door many a times. If it did cause problems, then you would see many cars driving around with bad paint below the filler door. The nice thing about the TL is that it comes with the black sleeve at the top of the filler opening that catches the drips after you are done pumping.

You and campIIIMAF are both right. A little free water and a paper towel, plus the wax when you get home, won't hurt and is a good precaution. And it will protect that area for the next gas spill.
