So, does paying more for Premium fuel cost you more on your commute??

Let's consider my case. I can drive my TL, or the wife's Pilot.

Given factor's (understandably, these are highly variable based on how and where you are sentenced to drive, but the concept holds):

$2.29 = price per gallon of Premium (91 Octane)
$2.09 = price per gallon of Regular (87 Octane)

27 = observed MPG of my TL while commuting to DC
22 = observed MPG of the Pilot on the same commute

Thus we get the following fuel costs:

8.5 cents per mile for the TL
9.5 cents per mile for the Pilot

Hah, I win again at the dinner table for driving the cheaper car to work!! Of course, 1 penny per mile takes a long, long time to add up to real money...

Hah, hah, the real winner is my CBR 900RR, which at 50 MPG on regular is a paltry 4.2 cents per mile. And, HOV without carpooling (or "Slugs", for those sentenced to work in DC like me).
