Gas Consumption
Hi,
I'm a new TL owner and I really love the car! Thanks everyone for their feedback and for helping me make the final decision to buy this baby.
My question is about Gas consumption and how many kilometers people are getting with their car per tank.
I have a AT and pretty much drive my car in stop and go traffic through the city streets of Richmond/Vancouver, BC.
I get about 17 L/100km. I'm using 91 octane.
There are no "decent" highways here which will only get worst as we get closer to the Olympics. Don't get me started. I use to drive a MT and it really sucks in stop/go traffic here. That's probably one of the reasons for getting the AT.
Btw, any TL owners out there from 604?
Thanks.

Welcome to the forum
Since your new TL still needs to break-in, your gas consumption is supposed to get better and better after your kilometers increase. I'm driving in NYC, one of the worst stop-and-go places, I got about 13~14.7 L/100KM, however, once I hit the highway, it will be <9 L/100KM.

For those Canadians who are wondering... Here's the math:
55MPH = 38MPG
=> 88km/h @ 6.19 L/100km
65MPH = 34MPG
=> 104.6 km/h @ 6.92 L/100km
75MPH = 31MPG
=> 120.7km/h @ 7.59 L/100km
85MPH = 27MPG
=> 136.8km/h @ 8.71 L/100km
95MPH = 24MPG
=> 152.9km/h@ 9.8 L/100km
105MPH = 21MPG
=> 169km/h@ 11.2 L/100km
It's unforunate that there aren't enough roads marked 80km/h or higher here.
Hey Drago. Congrats! Haven't heard of any TL groups in 604 but it would be cool if there were one. Let me know if you hear of anything. btw, You'll soon notice people checking out your car! Or maybe, its cuz they see me singing while the 5.1 surround stereo system is cranked!! Enjoy the new ride! I sure will!

Heah Viz, I have a quick question for you, when you say a temp voice command, does the system recognize Celius, for example set temp to 22 Degrees Celius, for some reason my only recognized Farenheit??!!!
Thanks man..later..

I didn't get the NAVI package. I don't think my car has Voice activated temp controls??
I figured, why do I need NAVI if we have Cypress/Grouse as our navigation.
Maybe I can get a software upgrade to enable voice commands for my Non-NAVI TL.

Yes, it's true. @55MPH, you can get 38MPG. In fact, on another time, I had set cruise control to 45MPH, 6th gear, and it was above 40MPG.
But you have to keep in mind the condition which I got this kind of mileage. It was a perfectly straight and flat highway. The cruise control was used to keep at that constant speed.
To give you an example, during one of the stretch was I was doing this testing, I came to a little rolling hill. On the upward climb, even though the speed stayed constant, the average fuel efficiency started to drop immediately.
The results I posted were "ideal" situation, any variation in acceleration would probably had made the results worse.
I am really curious if anyone had done this sort of test on an automatic.

I'd have to take the car on the highway up towards the Rockies or go south down to Seattle to get any speed like that. Vancouver has pretty bad urban planning and I probably won't make it past 80 before I come up against some snail-driver's bumper.
Not sure about you, but some how driving the TL reduces my road rage??
All in all, I think you're right when you say that gas consumption will get better over time.
You got a radar or something? How did you managed to pull off speeds like that?

Yes, I do have my trusty Valentine 1, but police are pretty good about using the "instant on" strategy so you don't have enough time to slow down.
280 is a fairly open freeway in the evening, and police coverage is usually (disclaimer) fairly thin.

604 (Coquitlam) here. Bought from Lougheed Acura back in Sept 2004. Gas mileage isn't great in the auto but 17 litres per 100km is really bad. I've had the TL just north of 200kmph (120mph) and it seems to be more stable at that speed than at 75-80mph. Although, I wouldn't want to make any fast lane changes.

What's the top speed on a 2004TL?

Why would you drive so fast at 200kph into a road with curves? Isn't that unsafe and dangerous? I have driven my 2003 TL-Type S at 230kph (140+ MPH) on a road with a slight curve and it feels scary if someone couldn't react and decided to cut in front of you, would you be able to slow down in time? Just my 2 cents
