Very nice write up. I got the JDM Inspire fogs. I think the longest part is trying to make the darn thing retro fit in the grill. Must have took me like 20 hours to figure it out. Good Stuff!

I wanted to add fogs to my TL but after cheking here and there... I have some questions
Looked inside the fender at night with a flashlight...
Saw that both inside sections of the grills have curve to give air into radiator.
Outer side of the right fenders is closed, ok to put fog.
but outer side of the left fender is not closed, top is open... has a curve to give air to intake.
and by installing fog there, you guys block the air.
as you could see, top of the plastic thing is open (where the fog is)
+
since the inner side is curved to radiator, no way for air to go into intake pipes
Was this discussed before? Any solutions?
07-08 prob. has something but what?

Seeing as the intake sucks air in I wouldn't see any issue at all, to where the radiator needs air to flow through it.
I ended up cutting all the plastic behind the front grills and double bubbled/ electric taped my fog lights in. Don't have any issues at all other then doing 145 and rocks hitting them, both of my fogs have busted. :\
But your intake will get air no matter what.

No way + double no way when you double bubbled/electric taped back of the fog light.
You see the top open part of the fog light on the picture I posted?
The air pipe for intake sits exactly on top of it. Even though you remove/clear the plastic behind the grills, may be 5% of air might go up into the air pipe for intake.
Not even that
Need hight density to move all the air to the intake.
Removing resonator and putting a straight pipe there might help but with everything stock I can't find a solution

I have a CAI, bit doesnt matter either way. Air takes up space, if your saying the air inst getting to your intake, that means you are creating a vacuumed area which i highly doubt being your intake tube is not completely sealed.
You are comparing 2 different items in your post, a radiator and a intake. The intake doesn't need air flow to work, just needs a non sealed area of air. A radiator needs air flow to go in-between the pipes and cool down the coolant.

CAI is way different, no matter what there will be cold vacuumed air down there, and since you cleared back of the fenders, definitely will get air there. Little will be enough also, because intake is far away from engine bay.
Stock or SRI has warm vacuumed air. More air is much better, instead of reducing air flow, we need to keep it higher. But that fog will reduce it. And when you seal around it with bubbles or tapes, it would totally close the pipe opening.
Would be crazy, saying that stock intake just needs it's own vacuumed air right beside the engine.
No, not comparing. I am saying right side of the left fender (the picture) has curve to give air only to radiator. The one on the picture is the worst set up ever for intake.
...with the fog
Stock intake needs air flow to cool itself and when it's right in the engine bay of this car...burning like a hell
Edit: Even though you cut the back plastic for to make air go to radiator... still won't help for stock intake. That's what I am saying
Fog is closing that opening
Stock people probably don't care or couldn't figure out that but I have SRI there.
I will remove the resonator for intake but still won't put fog there... it will slow the flow

^^^ Mekoabi relax man
all DREWMAN is trying to say is since Intake sucks air, you can have cold air in the neighborhood and it will suck it in....a Radiator does not SUCK air so it constantly needs cold airflow to cool it down....
the fogs do block the air getting in from the lower grille but the intake still sees cold air and sucks it in....
since I have fogs and a 4" SRI am thinking of running a dryer hose (light and 3-4" wide) from the lower grille to right outside the filter.....this will keep some constant flow of cold air

This I agree with, CAI... that's ok since not around the engine bay
Lower grill will always be cold and will get air, at least vacuumed air will be enough.
But I am talking about my setup and stock intake setup... or SRI
Isn't the only place is top of the fog light? When you close it... how will air go into intake? Stock intake or my custom one
Don't say vacuumed will be enough in engine bay you know what I went through about this intake thing and you know what road air takes to go all the way to intake
I thought you had something like dryer hose in there? You should do that...take pictures too.. ill copy

Many of us (hundreds) have the fog light setup with no problems with the engine getting air through the intake

Some even put friggin license plate there haha
Lot of people don't agree with me but I don't care I feel the difference
And now blocking an air way with fog...well I won't be able to sleep at night
Do you know the setup of 07-08 models?
#374
I did inspire fogs on my 04 but honestly I cut out a bunch of plastic that was truly the culprit of blocking air and then put the fog lights in the hole to continue blocking air just as the plastic before it. if I know correctly the air goes in closer to the license plate then disperses right towards the intake.
Edit:n step three it shows the plastic I am referring to so if blocking the intake worries you don't worry about it. It was blocked to begin with

It was blocked to begin with?
Wrong
You see the fog light?
You see the top of it? Open part?
Pipe for intake (the one where goes in front of the battery) sits exactly on top of it.
I am going to say go check your car but, you already modified that part.

I might be the only freak here...
They say it's just in your brain blah blah but no...
gas, intake air and weight that's all, forget the rest
They don't understand that cold+more air gives 100% power of the engine
but normal air or less air or warm air just reduces the 100%...
intake or more air won't add power, it'll just make engine use all of it's power and much quicker (you have to feel that)
anyways don't want to open it up here again
with those fogs you won't get much difference in mpg at city, but highway yeah (stock intake)
Of course no one will go and remove the fog light. Just saying after this point, if you add fog and have stock intake, remove the resonator and do straight pipe there...facing towards fender at least
+
remove the back plastics
Any better ideas? Glad to hear
I have to check how Acura fixed it with 07-08 since fogs are stock

If I told you that 2007/2008 TL bumpers do not have anything that pushes air up on the bumper by the fog grill, what would you say?

Bumper doesn't have it
The fender has it
So you guys saying it still doesn't make sense? haha
Forget about it effecting the cars performance ok? Just think about this
The place we put the fog...what does it block?
I mean forget about performance, point I didn't get is, how come no one mentioned it before. You could say f it, not a big deal but, you have to agree with me here with the logic
I am going to take pictures

BTW you got me wrong. I am not saying anything about 07-08
They could have something different back there to capture the air.
Which I am wondering what..
But our models have this
You see the unknown tube...the guy took the pics doesn't even know what it's for..
I don't expect lots of members to know it also
bottom of the unknown tube sits on the top of the fog light
got it?
The place you sit the fog...isn't roundish? Doesn't have vertical curve
So it pushes the air into here..to that unknown tube
But when people take the bumper out, can't figure out where the back of the fender sits
See? Goes in there, and then to front of the battery, and then in to this tube...passes from resonator
EDIT: look at the firs pic, check the bumper
you could even see the stock back of the lower fenders
place you sit the fog? what does it look like jonmizu
and the inner side is directed to middle of the car....

If you're tuning your car to a bone with a standalone, and are forced induction then there might be some logic behind it.

Because it doesn't effect anything. Cold air, hot air doesn't matter. I get the same MPG in December in Utah with 15deg outside, compared to the summer when its 95deg.

OK I couldn't hold myself
How the heck can you say cold or hot air doesn't matter I get the same MPG
Are you kidding me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I experienced that cold/hot thing on intake with my SRI K&N and currently custom intake.
Stop reading what you know.
Think out of the box or search a little, know about engines.
Hot air doesn't make any difference. God help this AZ
Put in some good posts, at least pay attention to other posts and make comment to those. Went to kindergarten and got friggin pictures to explain it

Does anyone know where i can get this done on my 05. I would do it myself but i don't want to mess up the bumper (any shops in the Toronto/ Mississauga area)

I'm located in Ottawa now so that'd be quite a drive.
MEKO, technically, you're saying people with 04-06 TLs with the 07/08 front bumper are technically blocking the air, too, right? =P
I understand what where you're coming from, though.
I just don't think it makes that much of a difference in my driving heheh

Well, people with 07/08 front bumpers on their 04-06 TL use the same "air pushing system" as any 04-06 TL, like mine and yours, therefore blocking out air too, right?

I didn't see it but doesn't it technically? Since there is fog there?
Edit: Are you sure 07-08 has same air pushing system on back of the fender?
So inner part is not turned into middle of the car?
Edit: If you ask me, pipe for intake prob is there but instead of facing down, may be it's facing forvard...
and they divided the fender into two sections, one is turning right so air goes to intake pipe, one is to middle of the car...

You are saying that you wont install the fog light because you are reducing the air flow to the intake.
My original post stated you don't need air flow for a intake, that is simple physics.

Sorry to ruin your thread guitarplayer...
Mods could delete my posts I don't care
What I wanted to know was simple
Does it block the pipe? Yes
Any solution? Maybe
Was this discussed before, sorry didn't read all 10 pages? No
Is removing resonator and throwing straight pipe there a good idea..as swoosh said? Yes
But what you get from our smart members...hey you don't need that, never needed, I am pro I would have felt it, car is running.
I'll give respect, I'll explain as I did everything up there but if still continues...
No words to people who read what they know.

Today off of work this week I tackled the job. So glad for this DIY
Only issue I had was my dash console broke top clip will have to figure out that repair. Glad to report fog light illuminates when parking light is switched on. And trigger connected thru only tapping parking light. Once again thanks for everyone input
