Front License Plate Bolt Size help?

Funny story, but I need help...

Dealer installed the front license plate for my 2004 TL w/ Navi. Last week I was sitting at a red traffic light when this HUGE guy (6'6", 300 lbs) gets out of his pickup truck in front of me and walks back to me. Fearing the worst, I kept my window just slightly cracked open. Fortunately for me, he just wanted to let me know my front license plate had just fallen off.

After looking at I realized the dealer did not use the correct bolts. There were WAY too short to ever do any good. Since my dealer is not the greatest anyway, I would rather not go back.

Anyone able to tell me what size front license plate bolts to buy? Any sites on-line sell them?

Helllllp !

I think this is what you're looking for:
046 93904-46220 SCREW, TAP (6X16)

Is the only place to purchase these from the dealer? And does the 'pitch' or thread size matter?

Thanks!

You could probably go to auto parts store. About the thread size, not sure on that. I 'm pretty sure the plastic plate holder is pre-drilled. You don't want to exceed the length, though, may create unnecessary damage to the bumper.

Home Depot or Lowe's should have these bolts. As said, 6X16, about 25mm (1") long should do it, but you could push something thin into the hole, like a toothpick, and measure the length. I don't want to remove my bumper plugs or I would measure it for you, but I checked the ones I removed and that is the size..

I've had trouble finding stainless bolts that will fit the back- has anyone found these at Home Depot or Lowe's, etc?

i know...do we have standard bolts??? I purchased a nice theft resistant set of bolts (cone shaped head that requires a special tool to unscrew them) but they were too damn big.

Talked to a different dealer today...he is telling me four 6x16 screws to hold the plate to the bracket and two 5x20 to hold the bracket to the car.

Does this seem to make sense? Hard to tell for me since I've never seen it installed correctly.

Thanks....

Not sure of the size of the existing bolts, but while I had my bumper off I put another bolt in the top of the bracket as well.

I went to auto zone, where they sell those "help" brand replacements and found a nylon nut and screw assembly. I just located where the hole is supposed to be then dremeled out a square for the nylon nut to pop into. At least now there is more that two bolts on the bottom holding the plate bracket in place.
