Man if I EVER find the time to tackle that whole interior LED backlight project these other guys are attempting, I would be ecstatic!! That is the biggest LED modding to date, wow!

Crestwood1001 11-03-2009 10:14 AM

I dont wanna do it myself, id rather have it done right.

dwb993 11-03-2009 10:18 AM

Dayumm, Rock. What a way to steal our thunder. With the puddle lights, blue sills and headrest monitors---you're killing me! Is that an old pic, or have you still not gotten that nasty green mirror light out yet?
Stay tuned---DeathMetal will be posting the latest in our series of DIYs sometime today. He has come pretty far.
My project has been at a standstill due to weather and other commitments, but I have some stuff in the works and hope to be completed soon. I still need to do some tweaking until it's perfect.
In case anyone doesn't know, Rockyfeller's thread here was the inspiration for many of my mods. Very creative guy--check him out:

It's pretty simple to do the footwell. Just run the wires inside your armrest glove box. There's a courtesy light inside and just tap the wire inside there. That's how I did it on my TL and also on my RL.

With the right tools, shouldnt take you like 2 hours.

Holy crap, I never even THOUGHT of the arm rest box! That makes this whole project do-able now. Thanks KB1Spec, that is a great idea.

Using the fuse box and some 18 gauge wire is more efficient because it allows you to suck more power without blowing up the electrics but its your decision.

John504 11-03-2009 09:33 PM

led strip

How do you wire them to your courtesy light?

Pz_ 11-03-2009 11:18 PM

Yeah, when I got in there tonight I noticed that light was just on with the park lights I think. I was looking for more of "when the door is open" on sort of thing.

KB1Spec 11-04-2009 12:13 AM

You need to find the source for the courtesy light wire and tap the wire.

UNLESS you want it constantly on while at night driving. Depending on what type of LED strips. The one I have are not very bright nor very dim. It's good enough where you are not being obstructed by glares

Crestwood1001 11-04-2009 06:52 AM

Thats why im doing mine wired strait to the fuse for the parking lights, so they come on with the headlights. But they are on a switch so you can override that if need be.

KatabaticSaint 11-04-2009 04:30 PM

They make Leds you can put in the dome and courtesy lights. Saw some at Autozone today.

Crestwood1001 11-06-2009 08:04 AM

Yea they do, i dont know how I feel about having blue leds in all the lights in the car, i think id rather pure white led's. I def like the blue footwells though.

KatabaticSaint 11-06-2009 02:47 PM

Actually they are white. Look at thses thats what i am thinking of doing but idk i have never used this site before so idk if you want to buy anything from it but yeah these and the company type s make these kind of dome door and accent lights. http://www.carparts.com/PUTCO-UNIVER...1970_10618.car

Izzy-Type-S 11-06-2009 02:51 PM

Nice! does anyone know how to make the red Type-S floor lighting brigher & more red? Is it just a bulb change or full strip installation like this one here?

DUDE! How did you get the Acura symbol on the lower part of the door frame to light up? That is f-ing awesome!

KB1Spec 11-06-2009 05:23 PM

Do a search on the forum. There is a sponsor sale section that are selling the illuminated door sill there.

If you take the lower dash out, you can get to the light. Twist and pull it off, then being very careful you can pull the cover off the bulb. The cover is very light white, not clear. So now you have an uncovered bulb, making it a little brighter.

Crestwood1001 11-07-2009 06:01 PM

If you really want it red just get a 6 inch strip of red leds for a few bucks and do this mod

They're difficult to find. Keep a close eye on the Black Market. I got lucky and found someone who wanted to sell their set of red door sills.

trackvaulter01 11-12-2009 11:19 PM

im thinking of getting red puddle lights for my 2001 cl-s but im not sure yet, i have to get the gauges done first but its on my to do list...how hard was the install for the puddle lights? and theyre wired to your headlights?

robchimo 01-15-2010 08:02 PM

can anyone tell me which fuse is for the parking lights? the manual is no help. thanks!

The Big Dog! 01-21-2010 11:03 AM

I installed brighter footwell LED strip lighting to operate only when the doors opened for my wife's TL. I tapped into a live wire behind the glove box suggested by another post. Wife thinks it looks great! http://www.sbadesign.com/acurazine/sills/index.html

KB1Spec 01-21-2010 11:54 AM

I currently have some 2.75", 6", and 15" long LED strips

Phambam12 01-21-2010 10:14 PM

you guys got me so confused i dont know if i wanna do this anymore.

The Big Dog! 01-22-2010 12:41 AM

It was well worth the time, effort and it was not very expensive! Do it! What is the problem? Most posters wanted the lights on most of the time but I only wanted extra lights when opening up the doors.

Phambam12 01-22-2010 03:57 PM

lol i dont know;

A: what i all need
B: what tapping means
C: how to do electronic mods

:(

KB1Spec 01-22-2010 04:24 PM

Maybe have a stereo/alarm shop do it for you. You provide them the parts.

Phambam12 01-22-2010 06:25 PM

i dont trust others with my car..

dwb993 01-22-2010 06:43 PM

Then search is your friend!

where does it attach under the rear seat?
there is nothing to stick it to.
what did you use to mount it?

3M double sided tape---get it from any auto parts or hardware store. The lip is actually made of a fabric type underside right on the front of the rear seat cushion (if that makes sense). You could also go with underneath the front seats, but you have to be more careful how you route your wires from this location.
I have found the adhesive backing on the strips themselves is not sufficient to hold them in place--even on the hard plastic panels in the front. I've had no trouble since using the 3M tape.

pinina 02-01-2010 06:21 PM

so where do you tap it to work with the dome lights?
up it the head liner?

KB1Spec 02-01-2010 06:34 PM

Yup...
