Could you provide a link for the item you bought?

Searching Ebay, and found items that look similar, and they indicate PU Leather. I don't even know what that is! A quick search indicates that it is fake, man-made leather.

So being a quick fix, I guess the bottom line is: how does it feel?

For $12, looks like it serves its purpose. Not everyone cares how pretty it looks, they need a car to drive from point A to B. And a torn seat bottom will just continue to get worse and worse.

Would I use this to repair my seats? Probably not...but it really would depend on my budget at the time. Truthfully, the moment my seat tears, that would probably be the final thing to make me sell it and go buy a new car. I have been on the new car fence for several years now.

Guys I feel you but it does the job for now. I rather look at this cheap looking cover up then my precious ripped leather.
I would love to replace with a new seat, but for the price no Thank you. I did get lucky a month ago and found a guy selling a mint top part
of the passenger seat for $100 dollars so I will install that soon.

how much is the replacement seats from acura (front seats only?). As I understand it, they don't replace the whole seats, just the leather upholstery, right?

dealer price is crazy like 800 for top trim part and 400 for bottom.
Autocustomleathers makes good replicas for $500 per seat.

That and by all accounts, the AutoCustomLeathers hides are far superior to the OEM leather.

It might be a decent interim solution... But I wouldn't be posting about it. It's like "hey look how cheap I am... Look at this completely mismatched seat bottom I bought because I didn't think spending the money to do it right was worth it"

If you ever sell your car, makes a guy wonder about what else was skimped on, in terms of care and maintenance.

I don't mean to rain on your parade, but you gotta take the good with the bad whenever you post car mods.

I would never knock someone for doing a function over form repair that causes no other damage or ill effect on the vehicle. This is purely cosmetic and has absolutely no impact to the vehicle. It isn't like this was someone trying to save $3.50...this was $12 vs several hundred.

If this were el'cheapo paint fixes on the bumper or uber cheap used tires or Dollar store motor oil...yeah, I would agree with you. But technically this el'cheapo seat cover is better than leaving it bare and the seat foam continuing to be exposed. Yes at some point if someone wants to make it pretty again, they will need to replace the seat cover.

Don't worry my list of maintenance records will overwhelm any buyer. Maintenance over mods.
Yeah you're right its a bad mod for you and most on the forum, but not everyone will see it that way. This mod made me happy so I'm good.

Why don't you call around a few reupholstering shops to see what it would run you to fix it a bit better than... that? I'd call at least three places.

No, it won't be a $12 fix... but it won't look so ghetto either.

Here is a fellow forum member, ( llllBULLSEYE ) willing to take the time and effort, to share his experience, on the cost vs.result application, of a serious issue. If this " cheap fix " is not for you, so be it. I don't understand why anyone would Bash this cheap fix, or feel that it looks worse than a split seat cushion cover. Since this fix is merely an alternative to spending upwards of $500.00 to repair it to OEM spec, it is certainly good to know. From a Purist standpoint, it may not be appropriate, but from a function standpoint it certainly is. For my part, I don't think anybody was bashing the fix, it's just that the timing of the post, being on April 1st and all, made a lot of us think this was some sort of an April Fool's joke.

Actually I think it looks good it'd be nice if that company offered a 2-tone, I spent $200 at a local shop to fix the bottom cushion of my seat and I am really happy with the result but if I didn't have the money I wouldn't mind that cover.

I spent $25 on seat covers for my kid's hand me down TL so I'm not knocking the OP's solution. Not everyone is looking to have a 2006 show car.

Pretty nice $12 investment to keep the leather/foam from getting more deteriorated on a daily driver. Nice job!

The previous owner of my TL had a local shop re-upholster the leather for both front seats, total cost came out to about $800 for both front seats from a receipt I found in their records. The backs weren't done and its showing tears and the dreaded Honda leather wear/tear.

Looks like this may be a cheaper route than buying whole new seats and about half the price....but still quite expensive and probably only worth it if you plan to keep the car for many more years to come.

As long as safety and function aren't impacted, then its all about opinion. One of my cars had a tear in the passenger seat on the side. I never saw it except in the rare case I had to sit in that seat. I never fixed it. If it was on the drivers side, I would have gotten it fixed immediately cause it would bother me. Point is, its all about what works for you. Some people get cheap all-weather Walmart floor mats and replace them every year and some like the custom look of WeatherTech. Even if this was an April fools joke, I think its a valid solution for someone who doesn't care.

Yes at this point in the game I'm done spending any money on this car unless it has some sort of mechanical issue.

Here’s mine before and after from the local upholstery shop. I was not going to pay oem or aftermarket prices n labor so I don’t blame you going with that cover. Good luck to your future projects Bullzeye

WOW<,, that is insane good. i wanted to fix mine too as it is old and cracking. I was quoted $600 by my Dealership and they told me it was a good deal. I also need to replace the Middle Arm rest with leather but that one would cost me $300. Is there any cheaper way to replace these ?

Cool As long as they match...

Sure, $25 for a pair of seat fixes works (beats duct tape, right?) but if I was buying, the seats would be a negotiating point.

Yes because seats at a junkyard will be in great shape. Not like the cars were all made the same year or anything. So chances are good you'll find the seats at a junkyard from a car that is 10 years old or more and be good, just waiting.

Excellent point
I have gone to a lot of junkyards to check out Type S seats. They are all in bad condition and if they are decent they look like they will start tearing apart soon.
I found only 1 seat in good condition, but it looks like the Junkyard left the seat out in the sun for so long that when you touch it felt like a rock.

Problem with Type S seats is being able to find someone parting it out. I'd rather sit on temporary covers than some foam with previous owners' ass sweat.
