Everything is negotiable. Even though certain things cannot be eliminated. In your case in jersey, that whole 298 doc fee is bogus and should be taken off. On th m.v. fee, what is the breakdown on that. Make sure there are no bogus charges on it. They inflate these charges all the time. They sometimes pay a person to go to motor vehicle to get the license, and tack that on to m.v. fees. That is not a m.v. fee, that is a cost to dealership. Bogus, and ususally overinflated, so they can take a cut. They will pay someone say ten dollars a license and then charge you fifty dollars. Which they probably split with the sales manager the extra forty.
Destination fee is there, cant do anything about it, but price paid for car is negotiable.
When I first went looking for my tl, I went to jersey. I asked what the doc fee was for, and the salesman had the nerve(even knowing I was in law enforcement) to tell me that in jersey, they have to pay a dock fee, to get the vehicle from the jersey docks. As soon as this lie was told, I starting walking out the door, and he quickly said I will ask my manager if this could be waived. By the time I got to my car, he came running after me telling me they would waive this fee. But he already made a brutal mistake with me. This place I believe was called park avenue acura. A few miles past the gw bridge

Much regards flatfoot

What the heck is a tire tax? Never heard of that one before. Which dealership was this from, if you don't mind?

I also paid a $299 document fee when I got my car from Acura of Ocean. I think that's about the norm, although I've seen them much lower around $200 too.

Destination fee is already in the sticker price.

Documentation fee= Dealer Profit

NJ does charge $1.50 per tire

Tax Not negotiable
Registration : need proof of actual cost

Also don't buy window etching at $188

Im my opinion, in new jersey, reject the doc fees, and so will they. Just ask them what the breakdown on the mv fees are. It should appear on the sales receipt, but ask them to break it down for you on a piece of paper, and accept whats right.
If you see m.v. registrations fee, inspection fee etc. These are all proper and the price is mandated. Anything that you dont recognize, ask them what it is, and ask them to explain. If in doubt call up motor vehcile and ask them what the fees are. In New jersey, there is probably a web site explaining all fees and how they are determined. A few minutes of your time , can save you a hundred bucks.
But in New Jersey, like I said, those "doc fees" came out real fast, when questioned.
I brought the car in new york, and there were no such crap. There were m.v. fees (as well as that legitamate by new law tire tax). When I saw how dealer broke down m.v. fees, I questioned some items, and had them removed. Specifically how much the dealer is trying to charge me, for having one of their people or hired person, to actualy go to motor vehicle.

Ps

You can work backward from the tax.
32,820 X .06 = $1,962.

So your car cost is $32,820 Plus the bogus document preparation (profit)

Everyone is correct but try and get the dest fee taken out. i told them that the car is there already and they would not be able to sell it otherwise.. the guy actually took it off... i have to check on how much the other fees cost me on my invoice.. the DMV fee was $200 if i'm not mistaken.

DMV is high but I paid about the same thing, then like 3 weeks later i got a check in the mail for 74 dollars refund from the dealer for overcharge.

I guess they charged to much!

Doc fee I paid, and I paid 8 dollar tire tax since I didn't want the .50 cents on there. lol

I know I know now that I think about it, I should of kept the 50 cents and invested it. Could be 1 million dollars in a year or so.
