FEELER: Umnitza CCFL Angel-eye rings for 3GTLs in different color/tempertures

What's up guys. As many as you know I have become pretty famous around here for the angel-eyes mod. I did my car, bforbrian's car and aznbenz07's car. Now many of us on this forum have done this mod. I love this mod. But one thing I never really got used to is the color/temp of the rings. Though it looks good, it still is mismatched because of my extensive LED mods and 8000K HIDs. I did some research and seen some CCFLs on other types of cars and found different temps are out there. Oracle has some options out there but they are pricey. Umnitzas are good stuff, ask the BMW guys. I'd rather stick to this brand, mine are bright and been running flawlessly. This thread is meant to gauge interest for the prospect of producing a limited run of rings in different colors. A group buy might become available if this thread generates enough interest.

As you guys know the rings that have been available are said to be 6500K. It looks more like 5500K to me. They are nice true white color and look great if you have stock 4300K HIDs and not much else. If you have white LEDs that are more bluish or >8000K HIDs you'd probably be more interested in more color. As a matter of fact 4 new choices could become reality if there is demand.

My gut says most people here would jump on a set of 8000K rings. They are a bit bluish without looking too blue. They'd look perfect if you have white LEDs or switchbacks like me.

Also 10,000K is a possibility. These rings will look really close to blue neon. If you have a blue theme going on or some deep blue HIDs goin on, you'll want these.

Another possiblity is red. Maybe some of you Type-S guys out there would like a set of 4. These actually should be called demon-eyes.

And the last color would be a JDM yellow. Would be pretty eye-catching particularly if you have some 3000K HIDs.

Again, just so there is no confusion; I am not home-making these rings or anything. I am talking about Umnitza CCFL angel-eye rings here. If you have ever considered this mod now is the time to jump on it and say what you want. If it becomes reality it will be a limited run. If you have a Type-S please state "4-rings" Please don't ask me about pricing yet. There is no group buy yet, this is purely a feeler thread. Please don't muddle this thread with OT discussion or negative critisism like angel-eyes suck etc. Stay on topic. Let's see who is interested here:

dude, a couple of weeks ago i passed by a dodge charger with angel eyes and i must say their bezels are HUGE. It was intimidating as hell; kind of scared me. We both stared at each other cause us two strangers had something in common

Certain cars like the IS350, Charger, TL etc. are a natural fit for the rings because a bit of the upper edge is cut off giving it an eyebrow effect, just as the original idea from BMW. ^^That Charger looks angry with those brows. Not that it's my taste but red ones would look wicked.

typically it's polite to ask the forum admins for permission before posting a feeler thread for a product you're considering offering our members.

I bought from Umnitza several years ago and he was fine to deal with then, not sure about now. I must say that it is definitely a PITA to install them just right. I did it on an 04 Altima and baking the headlights made me nervous as hell. They did look mean as hell and got tons of looks but I doubt I would do it again.

Whats off topic ? Stating that someone(s) he knows had a bad experience with the above company would be considered valuable information to me vs. " Off Topic "

Dude, this is a thread for people who have wanted to do angel-eyes and are in the planning stage but who have hesitated because of color match. This is also for those who already have rings and want new rings on their cars that are different than the normal 6500Ks.

It has been shown that installation error is the main cause to blame when there are problems. Also the inverters are not the greatest. Some have critisized the aftermarket support. We've talked about this on other threads, why rehash here? Anyone who is smart can do a search and research this topic. You will see the good, the bad. If this goes for a limited run you will not be dealing directly with Umnitza as some of the Bimmer and Azine guys have. You will be dealing with a vendor. The vendor I bought mine from has been very nice to me.

If you people want to bash Umnitza go ahead. It dosen't hurt my feelings, I don't own the company. Just start your own thread and post all the stories you want. I know there have been some negative press for the company. I read about it when I was in the planning stage too. I didn't chicken out though. I went for the mod and I am a happy customer. I'm not the only one. I used to own a Bimmer and used to be on those forums too. The same scene as Azine. A few bad stories but overall good.

So I think it is OT. This is to gauge interest, not disinterest.

i was checking the Oracle Ebay store, and they have nothing available for the TL, just the TSX. any specific dimensions or specs i should be looking for? the 10k/blue gets my vote, although the red looks hot fire.

Most states have laws that will give you problems having any kind of red or blue lighting on the front of the car. Those colors are reserved for emergency vehicles. As with most acessories of this kind the disclaimer is the same; "For off-road use only". For all the smart people out there that means wire it to a switch and be able to turn them on and off at will. In a parking lot or at car shows is where you wanna flip these on. If you drive around 24/7 with the blue or red rings you are asking for it, it is very attention grabbing. EVERY cop you pass WILL see it. Red lights are legal only on the back of the car and your license lights have to be white, amber is allowed too but no other white lights. Blue lights are illegal anywhere on the outside of the car.

The 8000K and JDM yellow won't pose any problems. White/Amber colors are legal on the front.

Given the Narrow aspect of our headlights, I would love to see someone create some subtle "devil eyes", (as you see on the new Audis).

That would be badass. IMO of course.

Thanks. I am getting requests for this mod a lot. I am retired though:

https://acurazine.com/forums/car-parts-sale-361/closed-clearing-3gtl-lights-angel-eyes-nyc-area-limited-offer-379878/

It's really back-breaking work. It's not difficult at all, just time consuming. My curse is that I am very detailed, don't take shortcuts and am a perfectionist so it takes me about 16hrs. Also nowadays I am pretty busy with life and I hardly get time to mod on my own car.

As careful as I am, it is very possible to screw things up. Nobody is perfect. If I do that on my own car I don't care but if I mess up on someone else's 30K car I feel bad and I am liable. My rings have been running perfect, no problems.

You guys may be able to convince the others on the forum who do headlight clearing to add these on for you. It's not that much more time and labor.

Mine are still going strong since Feb of 2007.

Too much work... I have no idea how JnC and the like do this for side money, it's hardly worth the time for the meager $150 or so they put in thier pocket

I would be very interested in this mod for my WDP 08 Type-S. Though I would need them installed as I do not have the time or patience to do this install.

I have also seen JNc's thread about the mods and all, but it seems like the list is a mile long and it's pretty hard for me to go without head lights in my car to have them shipped in and completed.

well if you think about it; doing these headlights is like...model building, or on a very elementary level, building legos.

if you like to do it, it's just a plus to get paid for it too. - plus JnC gets some serious bragging rights when he posts his finished products...

Well to tell you the truth I only do this because its an 8 year old hobby and I am constantly in search of projects. This vendor venture is great since it keeps me busy and pays for gas, the day it starts paying my mortgage I'll quit my day time job

I give you props JnC because I know full well all the work that goes into this mod. I did a couple other headlights too and I quit that. It's just not worth it to me, I killed my back! I was paid fairly but if I charged again for it again it wouldn't be worth it to most people. I will say that the more you do it, the better and faster you get at it every time.

Credit to you JnC to keep it going because, as you know, not everyone has the skills we do. There's a non-stop plentiful demand for people wanting headlights cleared/blacked. That always keeps it a niche market for you.

haha I know when I used to hear other people complain about their back when I was young I used to think whattha? Yeah man, gotta lift weights again, my body is falling apart lol. Can't run as fast as I used to, can't drink as much as I used to.....etc. etc..

Old? I guess so. I was 10 when you were born.....just wait till you're my age man, all those things that you never thought would happen to your body will. Just happy that nothing has changed in the bedroom at least.
