Favorite voice commands or shortcuts?

What voice commands do you use the most? My guess is that "volume up" is not that useful because there's a dedicated button under your thumb on the steering wheel...

Any secrets? Any unexpected favorites?

- Setup
- Display night or display day
- display map

It allows me to change the color of the screen without messing with menus.

another command I use a lot is for changing XM stations.
- XM Channel 72

& while navigation is working...
- How far to destination ?
- How long to destination ?

In cold weather "rear defroster". I use the max button for the dash lights to change the colour of the map when I have the headlights on rather than the voice command. I can never remember the station presets so I love to simply said "radio, station number FM". I have also input as my locations all the take out places so that I can order food on the way home and pick it up. I just need to say "menu", "My locations (I think this is the command) and pick the number".

Actually if you just say 92.5 or 1150 it will automatically switch between fm and am, repeat the number and tell you what band you are on.

I still wish I utilized the feature more. I think I need to sit down and actually study the damn commands like it was a french test.

Take a look at the manual. You can use it to operate the entire audio system, temp controls, Nav operations, and much more.......

Sorry you don't get any of the voice commands if you don't have the navi. I use the voice commands more than the actual navi and this alone is worth the price for me.

I like the fact that I can say...

- Radio 99.1

and it automatically knows it's FM!

If you just say 99.1 it also knows it is radio.

I generally just use "go home", "cd play disc [x]", or "find nearest [x]". Then there was this one time I was driving downtown with a buddy of mine... I tried "find nearest parking garage", and it didn't work - did something goofy like change the fan speed. So I got a little, er, miffed, and said, "FIND NEAREST PARKING GARAGE, MOTHERF***ER!" That worked fine. My friend was convinced I had programmed it to do that... That would actually be kind of cool if you could do that - sort of a "Samuel L. Jackson" mode. :p

Thanks for the tip. If it wasn't for this site I would know squat about this car. The systems are much more versatile than the manual indicates. T

The command I use most is "Radio select XM1" because I'm usually switching between XM1 and XM2. XM2 is just a push of the Mode button away. To select XM1 I have to cycle through the CD, FMs and AM.

Others that I use alot are...

"Rear Defrost"
"Climate Control Automatic/Off"
"Go Home"
"CD Play Disc #"
"CD Track Random"

Agreed!

Some stuff, like the radio stations and navi commands, do seem useful via voice recognition.

Other stuff, like volume and temperature, it really just seems easier to push a button. (Also faster.)

Ah, but maybe it seems that way because you learned buttons first. I can imagine that if cars first came with voice commands, we'd be saying, "These new radio/nav/AC buttons are insane! There are way too many of them and I'd never take my eyes off the road to look for the one I need."

is there a 'find nearest pool hall' or 'billiard hall' command? That would be excellent for me.
