Question Fastest way to reach top speed?

I was wondering what is the fastest way to reach top speed on a 05' TL?
TCS: on/off
Tiptronic: use it or no?
anything else?

SportShift mode will help at higher speeds. 5th gear in mine is just a cruise gear seeing as it'll still run up to the limiter in 4th.

Might seem obvious but location...
Wide-open, smooth pavement will obviously yield better results.

yeah, thats what I meant to say. Like lets say your racing, what would be the fastest way. I gathered TCS should be off, and I believe Rick explained I should change into sportshift mode after 4th gear.

If you're gonna run it from a dead/near dead stop to the top speed, I would just run it in SS mode all the way through.

At 120mph, the E-brake turns into a boost button which is the only way to make it to 165mph. Just pull that sucker and get ready for the ride of your life

Depends. If it's anything like mine, run it in the proper gear as if you were going to race it.

If I'm doing 50, I downshift down to 2nd & punch it.

Please don't try it on a public road. My insurance rates are high enough as it is.

I can attest to the horrendous driving abilities of folks down there.
Every intersection has some form of a car part. I'm sure if I cruise the streets for a few hours I can build a car by sourcing those parts.

local tracks offer drag race and road race driving courses for a day in your car- with a pro driver as your coach on all aspects of driving- for way less $$ than any reckless driving -racing-speeding ticket, and you learn more in a day than you can imagine

First you need a full dyno run sheet to learn the correct rpm shift points- when the torque peaks in current gear and shifting up will put it right on the rising torque band in the next gear
redline is not the most efficient way to get it to top speed

the traction control is off because it applies the brake to a spinning wheel to prevent sliding~ thats not going to help go faster but neither is spinning the tires- those are not gripping the road and transferring into forward motion

OP:
A: Its a TL not a corvette. If you bought this car to go really fast, i think you should have bought a different car.
B: Where do you plan on doing so? freeway? backroads? What if you get pulled over and get thrown in jail for being a tard?
C: who cares.
D: do you normally drive at very high speeds? Have you done this before? is it worth losing your life?

Honestly i don't care what my top speed is, because i'll never get there my TL, nor do i have a place to do so. Plus i'm not willing to lose my DL or pay a hefty ticket to do so. Do your self a favor and keep it at the track or just don't worry about it.
