F****G Valet Parking !
So i had to put my tl-s inside a garage in manhattan. This mofo who was valeting my car was changing gears without even stopping. He would put it on drive then reverse as the cars still moving then to drive. I was FURIOUS. I literally wanted to smack this dude. Isn't that really bad for the transmission?

Damn bro, that sucks. Number one reason why I never let valets ever drive, or touch my car. Because some of them are incrediably incompetent in doing their job.

I'd say its not going to do anything if only done a few times. However, if its part of your daily driving habbit and is repeated daily, then you might find some problems coming up down the road past 100k miles. Other than that, I wouldnt worry about it.

yeah, valet sucks! My husband (electrician) was recently wiring the new restaurants and slots at Mohegan Sun Casino in CT. When the guys would have break he said they would stand outside and watch the valet people drive/park cars. After the horror stories he has told me we do not valet park our cars anymore. Not really my style anyway.

1st off, this was a one time thing, chances are.. your fine.
2nd off, MOST people hired are kids from highschool with a permit or GDL or just got their licence. Let alone driving on the roads it's hard but parking is another task. Not everyone know's how to drive a manual. Since like ummm 75% of cars in the USA are automatic's, nobody cares to learn.
3rd, now you know not to go back.

valet parkers looked as if they were atleast 40 +. They def know how to drive. If you see how they park the cars , they are pretty darn good. Its just that they dont respect your car.

Usually when reversing, I'll throw in neutral to roll back while completely stopping, then throw it in drive.
Now if you throw it in reverse, and then while rolling backwards decide to throw in drive, you deserve a smack on the head.

with an auto, if you change gears moving faster than X amount of miles, the PC in the trans will over-ride it. This X amount is unknown to us, but I think its around 5 or 6 MPH. If you guys have seen mythbusters, you may remember them throwing a crown vic. into park while it was moving, it didn't switch gears because of the over-ride. but under the over-ride speed, its causing quite a bit of damage inside the trans since all the parts suddenly have to change direction while they are moving in the wrong one, thus making parts slam into each other and wear them down.

I was a valet at a country club for a couple years during HS. DO NOT EVER VALET PARK!!! First off, it's not their car...WHO CARES! Second, things tend to dissapear...I have taken several very expensive cars for "test drives" after the owner went inside...the worst thing that will happen is they will lose their job...which is not a money maker anyways...keep that in mind...

The first time I gave my manual transmission Integra to a valet, at a hotel on Sunset Blvd. in west Los Angeles, the valet stalled it badly right in front of me; I have no idea how many times the car was stalled before being given back to me when I left.
In 2003, a buddy's car rolled down a hill to sustain about $5K in front end damage when the parking attendant didn't set the parking brake on the manual tranny Prelude-- that's how my friend ended up with a 2004 TL.
I've tried to avoid valet parking or handing over my keys for stacked parking whenever possible since that valet v. Integra encounter. The risk of dings and bumper scratches is always present, but wafting body odor isn't good either (from a restaurant w/"valet parking only" a couple of years ago- it took a day to dissipate).

I accidently left about $300 cash, Ez-pass and a ipod in the glove comparment when i parked in in the garage. When i came back, it was still there. Atleast these guys didnt go thru my stuff. My friend who worked at a resturant as a valet respected other peoples car and took care of them as if it was his car. Hard to find people like him

Switching between drive and reverse isn't good for any auto trans but it seems to be worse for the Honda units. Just a couple times won't hurt anything but you don't want to make a habit of it.
As for throwing it in park while driving, the parking pawl usually won't engage fully if the car is moving too fast, it will just make an aweful clicking sound.
Throwing it in reverse while traveling 60mph and locking the tires is completely doable. Ask me how I know lol.

You should be fine...I've always been super cautious myself but transmissions tend to be relatively tough...that does suck bout the valet driver...my girl always askes me why I don't ever park valet...she doesn't understand but I know ya'll do...I'd rather park a few blocks away then let those bastards screw up the ack!

lol you know what is funny this similar situation happened to me today. I received an oil change and was going to pick up my car. I see this moron valet guy making a wild U-turn dropping the car into reverse and shifting into D without even stopping. I was watching my car struggle in pain. I ran up to him and grabbed him by the shirt......I guess I took a wrong approach....
Valet sucks, even when I had my TL the damaged the right fender claiming it was not them.
