Extended Warranty?
For those of you who plan to keep your TL past 4yr/50k miles, what are your thoughts on the extended warranty? My dealer quoted me $1400 for the 7yr/100k mile warranty. I'm considering it, but want to make sure I'm not getting taken.
Thanks for your input!

I took it since I'm going to keep it. I easily drove 181,000 miles on my camry. With this car, I expect just as many miles to. I think it's worth if you plan to keep the car for awhile. $1400 is a good price. I paid $1900.

check out Curry Acura...they sell on ebay and I've had awesome experience wtih them for every Acura part I've needed...the warranty for my 02 7yr/100K is only $1,285 with 0 deductible...just purchased. Here's the link for the new TL

CDW, I concur with Chad. I have a 1996 2.5 TL (great car by the way; never gave me a spot of trouble) which I'm about to trade in for my new 05 TL. I didn't initially buy the extended warranty because it was a lease. But I liked the car so much that I decided to keep it (they weren't making anything comparable to the 2.5 by the time the lease was up). Subsequent to that they offered me the extended warranty, which I bought. There's no rush when the car is new.
Regards,
Luke

Thanks for all the replies. When I spoke to my dealer they said there would be a surcharge if I waited too long (1-2 years). The link IndyTypeS left looks pretty good to me, it appears to be the same warranty from a different Acura dealer. Would there be any issues buying the warranty from another (out of state) dealer when it comes time for service? I haven't contacted my local dealer to see if they'll match or beat the price yet.
Thanks again.
Thanks again.

I got my extended warranty for $1100 (they were offering a sale price) , the dealership actually told me that if I have no need for the warranty durring the extended period I will get a refund. Sure can not find that in the paperwork but sounds nice. Anyway you can not beat the warranty for the price, nice insurance plus it can not hurt the resale value when you upgrade to the 08 TL in a few years It is transferrable to the new owner.

Not a Blowhole
For the 10000th time, this is a sucker bet IMO. The House almost always wins - if you can afford to write a big check occasionally, in the end these warranties are a big profit item for the dealers and underwriters - why do you think they push them so hard? To lose money?
Once a car gets past 4 years, 50K, its likelihood of making it to 100K are excellent. Plus, if you take care of your car as I do, the odds against any mechanical failures of major cost once the "infant mortality" (as we engineers say in the electronics biz, where assemblies usually fail within the first 24 hours, then last in the 300,000 hour and up easily*). The MTBF (mean time between failure) of Hondas has been outstanding in all the ones I have owned.
* I have several Bryston amps which have been on continuously since 1987.

Extended warranty = ADP (additional dealer profit)
I'm with Road Rage on this one.
Also many extended warranty companies have went belly up leaving people with a worthless warranty. This happened to a friend of my sons.
The only way I would get an extended warranty would be if the dealer signed a binding contract that they would take over the warranty if the company with the warranty went out of business.

I usually agree that extended warranties are a waste of $$ but I plan to buy them for my TL as well as my minivan because they are "goodie-mobiles" - Loaded to the brim with expensive electronics and gadgets.
I have faith in the properly maintained mechanics of an Acura that any shop can repair. It's the complicated electricals that can burn a hole in your pocket if it fails after warranty.
Imagine this - the NAVI or ECU goes down after 4 years...you automatically make up for the warranty cost. I don't remember where but I thought I read that the TL has NO LESS than 5 LANs talking to each other...?ECU, NAVI, XM, CLIMATE, RADIO? My network at work goes down once every couple of months. Do I expect this multi-network system on wheels to last 7 years without a glitch (exposed to vibration and water). Better safe than sorry on this one.
