Extended warranty for $535, 7yrs 100k miles
i just got quoted $535 for 7 yrs 100,000 miles extended warranty from my insurance guy. this is being offered by mercury, does anyone know if they are any good? The same warranty was offered to me at the dealership for $1695 which is negotiable.
i think im gonna go for it even thought i know the car will probably go 100k without being warranty repaired.
by the way, for those interested i was told u must add it within 60 days after the car purchase. ( mercury only, if u get it from dealership timing may be different)
Fyi; is it true u can refund the extended warranty if unused?

What was the deductible?

Also be careful as to what each warranty covers. Some warranty's do not cover certain things while the dealers warranty does. If their both full coverage warranty's, go the cheapest, keeping the deductible in mind.

I would find out about the deductable and compare the 2. I know the Honda warranty covers the navi unit and electronics. Most other warranties dont even come close to covering stuff like that not to mention the deductible is 0 for the honda. You need to get your car worked on 5 times in the course of 7 years. thats 500.00 on top of your warranty should have just bought the 1000.00 honda.

The Honda warranty is definitely the best one. There's no small print that you have to worry about. You can wait to buy the warranty up until the warranty is up on your car- 50K miles, but it'll cost more. You won't get money back if you don't use the warranty.

Extended warranties are a waste of your hard earned cash. Much like those silly extended warranties at bestbuy (i think they call 'em psp), they make the rich companies richer and you a lot poorer. If you think your car will break down after the initial 4 year warranty, put the cash into a CD or Money market account now to use it for future repairs.

Silver, I dont see your reasoning behind this. If you put a 1000.00 in a money market for 4 years at 5%apy your only going to make about 400.00 plus pay tax on that so your around 1300.00. Now lets say nothing breaks on your car that is 7 years old. Well I guess you pissed away 1300.00 for piece of mind. Now if your car does need some work. Lets say an alternator. Not unheard of to go bad. Well that job will cost you about 600.00 Now your only ahead by 400.00 on your initial investment. I have never owned a car that didnt break in 7 years. Odds are your repairs may not exceed your initial purchase price but if you do have th misfortune of a major breakdown you are covered. I aslo have to disagree with the warranties at bestbuy circuit city ect. Most of them is just profit. High doller items they are well worth it. Example Ibought a lap top there about 4 years ago. Top of the line it was about 2800.00 I bougth the 5 year esp. well 3 years later the thing just dies on me. I take it back it is outdated and they cant fix it so they have to replace it with the current top of the line computer. Witch now is about 2000.00 so I got a brand new computer and used the 800.00 diffrence to buy another esp and kept the 300.00 left over. Im assuming you would agree with the idea of the esp on big ticket items.

Hi yo Silver!
I agree with Silver and so does Consumer Reports.
Extended warrantees are generally a waste of money. Its a crap shoot.
Take ALL the money you have spent on them and compare that with the pay outs. Different picture.
However, I WOULD get a 7-100k extended on my TL in a heartbeat for $5xx. But, in Florida, most are illegal as they must be licensed insurance companies. I can't even get Honda Care here because they are not licensed.
I want one to cover Navi and the DVD players. The dealer offers one at a highly inflated price. I am going to go back to him and try to negotiate one post sale. It is called "Cost Guard" by the Advantage Warranty Corporation.
I don't know if I can buy one out of state that covers a Florida car. I had Curry Acura tell me they wouldn't/couldn't do it.

If the warranty is transferable, I would think that it would have the possibility to increase the resell value of your car, thus recouping you some of the funds. Of course this all depends on how long you are going to drive the car.
I didn't get the warranty, but if I end up driving the car more than 50k, I probably will pick the acura warranty.
So I think better deal than buying the 100k mile warranty when the car is new, is put the $1600 in a CD, and then right at 48k or 49k miles, break the CD and then purchase the 100k mile warranty. .

never stops!
Try to ask your dealer if they have refundable option after 7 years. My dealer sold me Acuracare warranty for $1895 (expensive thatn what Curry and Internet offers) and I've a full refundable options from dealer if I do not use it. If you get this kind buy it it's win-win. What you are losing is interest on this money but it's worth it. So I thought I'm buying this warranty for the interest I'd have earned had I invested that money.

JoganJani - What have you been smoking and where can I get some. Didn't someone in a prior post "expose" your perceptions of the refund as false? There is NO WAY on god's green earth the dealer (or the warranty company) is going to give you a 100% refund if you don't use it in the seven years of the contract. They WOULD NOT OFFER IT if they couldn't record the revenue, PERIOD! You have heard the phrase that there is "no free lunch", right? Or maybe this one hits home better..."Things that seem too good to be true (your implied deal) often are not true".

do a google search for 'acuracare extended warranty' There were a few hits that revealed $1,100 to $1,200 for the Acura 7yr 100k 0 deductible.
But first, we are going to get an extended warranty for our Suburban. Probably safe money that it will break in the next 5 years.
I would only go factory warranty esp. after 1,000s of Warranty Gold policy holders lost their money last year!
